My kick of TV shows continues... Parker Lewis Can't Lose was jogged into my brain by a coworker who mentioned it as being the sort of progenitor of today's TV shows that had a dose of attitude... and the phrase "Not a problem", which never really caught on as a replacement for "No problem". The whole Fox show was really a lightened, fluffy version of Ferris Bueller's Day Off with Corin "Corky" Nemec in the title role. He was your typical high school cool guy, and always got into mishaps and goings-on. Parker and his "best buds", Steiner ("Mr. Lewis?") and Mikey (who I really don't remember.) Ms. Musso was the school's principal, always trying to squash Parker's plans... and never seeming to do so. Until later in the show, as I distinctly remember a title change to just Parker Lewis. And, Kubiak from Parker Lewis was Jerry Markovic on ER! Looking back, I think Parker Lewis was the result of a meeting in which TV execs tried to combine elements of Ferris with Saved by the Bell. Parker was an obvious transfer of Zack, Steiner was Screech, Musso was (obviously) Belding with a dose of sex appeal and less of Belding's innocent nature. But I still liked the show. Sites for PLCL are hard to come by. There's this neat episode guide (in Spanish if you prefer with a few screen grabs), an emporium site that's hard to read, and not much else. -pm Comments

DATE: Tuesday September 19, 2000 -- 10:28:49PM I always talk about Parker Lewis. It's weird that it only had two seasons. Killed too soon like Get A Life. The show was definately up there in creative and abstrast writing. FROM: Aaron DATE: Wednesday September 20, 2000 -- 3:36:56PM I never really got too much into PLCL, but the few episodes I saw I did like. The writing was quite funny and original, better than SBTB (yes, blasphemy). FROM: Robert DATE: Wednesday September 20, 2000 -- 10:29:30PM Don't forget the wacky sound effects and the pirate radio station behind the lockers. FROM: MollyCule DATE: Wednesday September 27, 2000 -- 3:38:41PM Don't forget that Kubiak had his own bathroom, one of the perks of being in high school for 12 years . . . FROM: Robert DATE: Wednesday September 27, 2000 -- 10:33:59PM I dared to eat Kube's lunch. FROM: Matt DATE: Monday December 11, 2000 -- 11:39:38PM I just loved that show. Unfortunately they never have it on anymore. Did anyone tape any episodes when it was on. I think I have 4 of them. FROM: kubiak DATE: Thursday January 25, 2001 -- 3:12:48PM it was by no means like saved by the bell...the very idea is insulting to the show..you're making broad jumps because of stupid stuff like "belding and musso were both principals" and "parker and zack were both the declared leaders of their groups"....jerry wasn't that much like screech, and parker was not very much like zack...not to mention the fact that saved by the bell was a sack of crap.. FROM: Ryan DATE: Thursday January 25, 2001 -- 3:41:30PM saved by the bell was a sack of crap FROM: Robert DATE: Thursday January 25, 2001 -- 7:32:06PM If SbtB was a sack of anything, it was a Sack Lunch. FROM: Rod DATE: Monday March 19, 2001 -- 2:21:16PM Have they ever released any of the episodes of Parker Lewis on DVD? FROM: Ryan DATE: Tuesday March 20, 2001 -- 11:53:01AM Rod -- Nope... and as far as I know, there aren't any plans to. FROM: sean DATE: Saturday October 13, 2001 -- 3:51:05PM Parker Lewis was the damn after school show i ever watched.....i was really dissapointed the network hacked it after three seasons. but I have been endeavoring to find some one out there, as crazed as I, that i can download the episodes from. There has to be someone. if you know anybody please let me know who and where. FROM: rodney DATE: Friday December 6, 2002 -- 10:28:28 pm All i want to do is watch "Paker Lewis can't Lose". Does anyone know where and/or how I can accomplish this goal? Thanks a mil! FROM: yavanna DATE: Saturday May 24, 2003 -- 5:04:57 pm Urm...if we're talking about the same Corin Nemic, he can be seen on CMT in Toby Keith & Willie Nelson's new video "Whiskey For My Men, Beer For My Horses" It's a really good video! FROM: Dave Walls [E-Mail] DATE: Sunday May 25, 2003 -- 12:34:28 pm Melanie Chartoff was definitely the hottest principal ever on television. It's a shame we don't see more of her, but she did latch on to the "Rugrats" empire as the voice of Didi Pickles, so it's a least a small comfort to know she's doing well. FROM: Xander77 DATE: Friday June 27, 2003 -- 7:55:21 am Actually, the first two seasons were great... I really should get the "Disaster at Nick's diner" ending of season 2 on tape... But the third season was really pointless... Then again I do suppose that the "Whacky Highjinks" of seasons 1-2 would get old... so I guess it's a good thing the show died when it did. FROM: Xander77 DATE: Friday June 27, 2003 -- 7:57:56 am PS - I still get the occasional re-run on Israeli cable channels... Would love to get my hands on Mikey Randall's "I've known you all of my life" from the episode "The Bithch Is Back"... Anyone? FROM: christina DATE: Sunday July 6, 2003 -- 9:40:30 pm Corin Nemic is totally hott! FROM: mandy DATE: Wednesday October 22, 2003 -- 7:33:47 am Rock on Corin!!! We love you!! MY EYES ARE SLANTING MORE AND MORE EVERYDAY, I CAN HARDLY SEE! FROM: Jonas DATE: Monday December 8, 2003 -- 6:12:18 pm I was so small when Parker Lewis was aired(born in 85) but I still remember some thing. That dude with the curly hair, dont know anyones name except from Parkers, wasn´t he always locked into his or someone elses locker? FROM: John Edwards DATE: Tuesday December 9, 2003 -- 11:48:46 pm Excellent idea, sirs! I just came across this again on "The Pile" (cannot mention, the 1st rule prohibits). I am now downloading episodes via P2P network. THIS, we agree, is something we'd definately buy DVD episodes of. FROM: Xander77 DATE: Saturday December 13, 2003 -- 12:01:24 pm Finally got it - "Parker Lewis - Mikey Randall - I've known you all of my life". Look for it on Kazaa or E-Donkey. FROM: Lucas Ceballos [E-Mail] DATE: Wednesday June 2, 2004 -- 7:14:00 am I already tired to find these episodes. As some of yuo said, they´re in german. And I know zero of german, I can´t Enjoy the "coolness" of the series. Can anybody send a msg to FOX to get a re-run? (Note: I´m from Argentina, so the idea of FOX even reading my mail is wacky) FROM: NateWolf DATE: Saturday July 10, 2004 -- 3:22:30 am All you buds are gonna love this. The first 20 episodes of PLCL are available via P2P (eDonkey) from the Digital Archive Project (www.dapcentral.org). Takes forever and a day to download one 23-min episode by DSL, and DAP has some strict rules about setting up eDonkey, but it's worth it just to see them again. Anyone who'd rather get the set in the mail, I've burned them to 7 VCD disks and I'm sure we can come to some non-profit arrangement, not a problem. I'm hunting down the episodes after #120... (And it's one year later . . .)
Parker Lewis Daily Ping Can't Die. :) Even as a kid, I didn't watch exorbitant amounts of teevee; and if I was going to watch something, it usually needed to be quirky and original. This was one of the few television shows that stuck with me over time. And I would watch the actors as they went on to other things and would always think, "He was on Parker Lewis." I was born in 83 so I was old enough to both watch the show, and be young enough to enjoy in an almost innocent fashion. And I actually remembered when I first saw the show in 90--on a hotel television while my dad was getting ready to move us to Guam. (Military Brat.) I was at first thrilled when I saw Amazon had a section for PL box sets; although they said "a release date wasn't set". Then I remembered what happened with Twin Peaks, another show that I liked, and then some of my joy was stiffled. Why do all the good shows get the same old treatment: hide it in the back of the closet like it was some horrible, embarrassing secret? Bah. But you better bet, I'll be of the many who'll put down money for the boxed set. On that day, there will be coolness. #;)
