Mr. Rogers is leaving his show. After an amazing 33 year run, Fred Rogers is stepping down and concentrating on other means of educating kids - including the web. It's a sad thing because, to me at least, Mr. Rogers was one of those people who was always there. He's a throwback to the Golden Age of Television, when things were a little more wholesome and pioneering. Now, we've seen and done everything and Mr. Rogers was always still plucking along, like nothing ever changed. There's something special in that. A Salon article traversing his career. DATE: Tuesday November 14, 2000 -- 7:42:55AM Wear a cardigan in silent tribute... FROM: Old Fezziwig DATE: Tuesday November 14, 2000 -- 8:01:54AM Props to Mr. Rogers. FROM: Robert DATE: Tuesday November 14, 2000 -- 9:53:34AM Mr Rogers has forever creeped me out. He's like the librarian at your elementary school the teachers all kept a suspicious eye on. FROM: Tina DATE: Tuesday November 14, 2000 -- 10:23:48AM What? Meow-Meow Kitty freaked you out? X the Owl frightened you? King Friday, Lady Elaine and that kooky Daniel Striped Tiger...scary? Freakish demeanor - the Platypus family abd the rest of them were NORMAL compared to what else was on TV...remember ZOOM? Electric Company? Okay, Mr. Rogers had his down moments. I wasn't exactly enamored of "Speedy" Mr. McFeely or Handyman Negrey. But hey, I looooved that Trolley! FROM: Robert DATE: Tuesday November 14, 2000 -- 2:00:03PM Tina--Uh, sure... FROM: Rob DATE: Tuesday November 14, 2000 -- 3:57:48PM Mr. McFeely just sounds like a child molester. Who came up with that name? It's like calling him Mr. Groper or something. FROM: Old Fezziwig DATE: Tuesday November 14, 2000 -- 4:38:53PM If you read the link provided in the Ping, McFeely is actually Fred Rogers' (Mr. Rogers) middle name. FROM: Rob DATE: Tuesday November 14, 2000 -- 5:36:20PM Ah... that's interesting. I guess his parents figured he'd have a whole lot of McFeelings to share when he grew up. FROM: Ryan DATE: Wednesday November 15, 2000 -- 7:20:36PM I was sad to hear about Mr. Rogers ending his show as well... when I was growing up I'd watch Sesame Street three times a day and "Roger" twice. FROM: Aaron DATE: Thursday November 16, 2000 -- 8:22:31PM You got "rogered" twice a day as a kid? FROM: Jimi DATE: Thursday April 12, 2001 -- 4:34:07PM wow no one has posted here for a while... I loved Mr Rogers, my great uncle would come in during the intro and put his sweater in the closet, and take off his shoes. Anyone who dislikes this show needs help. (meow meow) FROM: Tim DATE: Monday July 9, 2001 -- 6:47:13PM I enjoyed Mr. Rogers a whole lot. I watched that show so much when I was a little kid, I started getting a theory established. I saw that when he took his shoes off at the last part of the show it seems as though he didn't have enough ime to put on his other pair of shoes. This gives me the impression that when he goes to the closet and out through the door at the end, he is walking out barefoot. Any thoughts? FROM: kyle dragan DATE: Wednesday March 27, 2002 -- 8:10:40 am mr rogers was gay i hate that man and his damn slippers FROM: Paul [E-Mail] DATE: Wednesday March 27, 2002 -- 1:08:52 pm Clearly, the teachings of Mr. Rogers have been lost on some people. FROM: Curt DATE: Friday March 7, 2003 -- 3:39:49 pm Mr. Rogers, you will be greatly missed. Fairwell dear friend. FROM: Mary DATE: Tuesday May 13, 2003 -- 7:18:57 pm i don`t know about all of you but i really like fred rogers because he lived in my actural neighboorhood FROM: robbyn DATE: Saturday January 24, 2004 -- 12:02:29 pm I don't think Mr.Rogers was gay. All he was, was a well-kept man who liked to teach children about life. FROM: DATE: Saturday January 1, 2005 -- 2:57:10 pm FROM: Ashleigh DATE: Sunday July 17, 2005 -- 2:11:37 am OMG...can anyone say grow up to all the people above who think the man was gay or a child molester...I'm not saying I "loved" Mr. Rogers or anything...I watched it occasionally as a child...but still you can tell the ones who didn't by the comments they left...and how did those kids turn out...still doing the fucking "oh he's gay..." thing...riight what year is it now...last time I checked it was 2005 not the 90's... FROM: Paul DATE: Sunday July 17, 2005 -- 3:12:48 pm (That was a mighty long sentence.) FROM: Radicalcaes DATE: Monday December 12, 2005 -- 9:58:02 am I loved mr. Rogers! yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
