10 Terabytes… Soon

You may have heard about this… a company in Europe is claiming that it’s a very real possibility that an extremely large amount of data (11 terabytes) could be stored in a very small area (the size of a credit card) with no moving parts for as little as $50 as soon as next year. Wow.

The implications of this are amazing… consider this: 10 terabytes is equivalent to the printed collection of the Library of Congress. Considering that I’ve been tinkering around with less than 100 megabytes free on my hard drive for the last several years, I think 10 terabytes of storage would be good enough for even me. -ram
