Okay, okay, tell me what TV shows got canned that you liked... or maybe obsessed over. I'm curious if anyone can dig up something very very old, or very very esoteric. Mine? I still liked The Ben Stiller Show, due in part to Janeane Garofalo's presence. And when it was first on the air, I did enjoy My So-Called Life quite a bit; I remember watching it and thinking that it came as close to "reality" as a show could. Of course, now our lives are pretty much as depicted on The Real World.... -pm Comments
FROM: Matt
DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 12:21:31AM I agree with both shows mentioned. I actually was thinking of the Ben Stiller show yesterday. FROM: liz DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 1:44:25AM parker lewis can't lose!! FROM: Jessica DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 4:33:45AM I loved The State on MTV and I was sad to see The Charmings on ABC go. FROM: Ryan DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 8:27:28AM Freaks and Geeks... FROM: Tina DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 8:43:23AM I loved the Ben Stiller show! (I called Janeane Garofalo "Tahini Falafalo" - even though she's one of my favorite comics) Other good ones: "Square Pegs", definitely "My So-Called Life", "News Radio" - it didn't get canned, exactly, but now it's gone...sniff!, and that "Out of Control" variety show that used to be on Nickelodeon way back in the late '80's. It starred Dave Coulier as the mc of sorts, who went on to act like a total fool on "Full House" with John Stamos and the evil Olsen twins....yuck. Does anyone remember "Out of Control"? FROM: Robert DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 8:54:04AM Some days I wish all TV shows were canceled. FROM: Paul DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 8:56:10AM Does anyone remember "Out of Control"? FROM: Tina DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 9:02:09AM Paul - can I get a copy of that tape??? My sister and I are still attempting to perfect our imitation of that "Diz noise" (eeeweee eeeeweee! - my pathetic attempt to recreate the sound using actual words) - I'm sure you know what I'm referring to here. FROM: Rob DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 9:37:03AM Only one I can think of at the moment is Homicide. I can't believe that that show got cancelled and "ripped from the headlines" drivel like Law & Order still thrives. FROM: Tony DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 10:47:31AM I think that "American High" was very realistic, and much better than RW, its a shame it got canceled after the first 2 episodes. FROM: Ryan DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 11:46:50AM I also remember Out of Control. "Cut... it... out!" FROM: kim DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 1:40:04PM Magnificent Seven, good theme song, great looking cowboys, everything a chick show needs! FROM: Matt DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 1:46:54PM Haha, we were talking about out of control the other day at dinner. FROM: Ryan DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 2:35:17PM Matt -- Brooklyn Bridge is one of my all-time favorites. Such a well-written show and the acting was excellent. I have a few episodes on tape, I believe. In high school, I had a class called "American Minorities" and I brought in an episode of Brooklyn Bridge for the class to watch one day... everyone, teacher included, loved it. FROM: Matt DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 4:00:55PM Ryan, FROM: Kenny DATE: Wednesday March 28, 2001 -- 5:13:35PM Alf was awesome. The way he tortured "Wilhelm" was timeless. FROM: Old Fezziwig DATE: Thursday March 29, 2001 -- 9:46:56AM I was upset by these TV cancellations: FROM: Robert DATE: Thursday March 29, 2001 -- 11:40:32AM I miss The Chevy Chase Show. FROM: Matt DATE: Thursday March 29, 2001 -- 1:46:03PM Fezz- FROM: Ryan DATE: Thursday March 29, 2001 -- 1:55:25PM Robert -- I heard that. Damon was a surprisingly subdued guest. You could hardly even hear him. FROM: Robert DATE: Thursday March 29, 2001 -- 2:11:02PM Ryan--That was probably because he was being pressed on a topic he was not prepared to discuss. I'm amazed he didn't do much to try to change the subject. Any other Wayans would have been a better showman at the drop of a hat. FROM: Old Fezziwig DATE: Friday March 30, 2001 -- 9:21:22AM 90210 ran its course, it was not cancelled. FROM: Matt DATE: Friday March 30, 2001 -- 7:25:00PM Fezz, FROM: Richard Branson DATE: Monday April 2, 2001 -- 10:38:28PM test your memories: "Remote Control" on MTV - it was sort of a game show. Mid 80's I think. Oh and "Family" with Kirsty McNicoll. FROM: Ryan DATE: Monday April 2, 2001 -- 11:23:24PM I have an episode of Remote Control with L.L. Cool J and "Weird Al" Yankovic. LL was winning all the way until the final round when the subject was something like "The Beatles," and he had no clue. Al ran away with it and won the game. FROM: Matt DATE: Monday April 2, 2001 -- 11:43:48PM Ryan and I enjoyed watching that episode together about a year and a half ago. We also watched some You Can't Do That On Televison episodes that he had on tape. FROM: Ryan DATE: Monday April 2, 2001 -- 11:58:44PM And videos of me pitching in my backyard when I was 12. :) FROM: Tina DATE: Tuesday April 3, 2001 -- 9:21:40AM Whatever happened to "Perfect Strangers", with the adorable comic stylings of Bronson Pinchot? Who played "Cooosin Laaarry"? Does anyone remember? That show was pure sitcom genius! FROM: Matt DATE: Tuesday April 3, 2001 -- 11:05:07AM Tina that reminds me of this line of action movies I want to make. They would be based off of the "Death Wish" line of movies and star Charles Bronson Pinchot. FROM: Caleb DATE: Wednesday April 4, 2001 -- 10:21:06AM Dude, its all about alf. FROM: Paul DATE: Friday April 6, 2001 -- 6:03:14PM I'm pleased to report that an episode of Perfect Strangers was just on TV Land. I'm not pleased to report that it is the only airing for the next two weeks, and has been the only time shown since I got TiVo 2.0 many months ago. FROM: Tina DATE: Friday April 13, 2001 -- 10:16:09AM Paul - speaking of sitcom theme songs, wouldn't it be nice if they had all those tv theme songs (and I'm not just talking about the Flintstones or Brady Bunch opening songs --- I'm talking really esoteric ones, like Perfect Strangers, or Small Wonder, perhaps!) on a kareoke machine in some dusty sushi bar? Dare to dream, huh? FROM: Crissy DATE: Wednesday May 2, 2001 -- 9:01:13PM I can't quite remember names of the cast of Outta Control, but I loved that show! I loved "Afternoon Special" with Jodie and Muffy the mouse when I was a kid. I also loved You Can't Do That On Television. That is still my favorite show and anyone that has episodes, please email me at queenofdrums@yahoo.com FROM: Rampeij DATE: Sunday June 3, 2001 -- 3:44:05PM SOF: Special Ops Force was one of my favorites. Good cast. great action and incredible storyline about Black Ops. Sorry to see it go, but I guess that what happens when you get a crappy time slot. FROM: Ryan DATE: Sunday June 3, 2001 -- 5:59:15PM It really is all about the time slot. Freaks and Geeks was a great example of that... the best show in the last decade was doomed to failure from the beginning because it was debuted on Saturday night prime time. FROM: Lex DATE: Monday July 23, 2001 -- 9:39:28AM
FROM: Matt #2 DATE: Wednesday July 25, 2001 -- 1:07:26AM Reason News Radio was cancelled was because of Phil Hartman getting killed, correct? And, folks, it all comes back to The A-Team FROM: Marcus DATE: Wednesday July 25, 2001 -- 2:19:57AM There was a series shown for a brief period, one of the few that I watched regularly after adolescence; I believe the name of it was Nightmare Cafe It was put on like a Wednesday night (if I remember correctly, this is years ago) up against one of the bigger shows out there (something like Seinfeld or something, it was like right after it first came out though) that "EVERYONE" watched at that time. FROM: AngeFatoh DATE: Wednesday August 15, 2001 -- 3:46:44PM Why isn't Ned and Stacey still on? FROM: Ryan DATE: Wednesday August 15, 2001 -- 4:39:15PM If N&S wasn't canceled, it would still be on today. FROM: Elizabeth DATE: Thursday August 16, 2001 -- 12:52:11AM The greatest canceled TV show of ALL TIMES is Mystery Science Theater 3000. Hands down. FROM: Paul DATE: Thursday August 16, 2001 -- 7:36:24AM Now that's tough to argue against. FROM: maiko DATE: Thursday August 16, 2001 -- 1:48:19PM What about V, the 80's miniseries and show about aliens that descend on earth pretending to come in peace, when in fact they are secretly capturing humans for food ? I loved that show. FROM: rachel DATE: Thursday September 6, 2001 -- 1:36:06PM Does anyone remember that show that was a half hour long and was sorta like MSTK 3000? I think it was on NIckelodeon for a few weeks. They showed old old movies and dubbed in new voices with a bizarre plot. It was so funny! And I can't remember the name! I think it was like Mad Television or something. Does ANYBODY know? FROM: Rachel DATE: Thursday September 6, 2001 -- 1:42:53PM I got it! It was Mad Movies! Did anybody see that? FROM: Rob DATE: Thursday September 6, 2001 -- 1:49:30PM I'm not sure if it was the same show, but I remember SOMEthing like that. The only thing I can remember, though, is one episode where they kept having everyone ask, "Are those your real eyes?" Funny show, though. Man, that was a long time ago... Of course, this could be an entirely different show I'm thinking of. But anyhow... FROM: Scott DATE: Thursday September 6, 2001 -- 2:24:02PM I know I am way late to be discussing "Remote Control" but one of my High School English Teacher's wife was the producer--I grew up on Long Island and went to New Hyde Park Memorial (in New Hyde Park of course). The audiences for first episodes of Remote Control were actually composed of kids from my high school, as were the audiences for lots of other MTV pilot's. I was never invited :( FROM: Adam DATE: Thursday September 13, 2001 -- 6:48:36AM I definitely agree with Mystery Science Theater 3000 - one of my all-time favorites! Let me throw out another one: AMERICAN GOTHIC. It starred Gary Coles (I think), the dad from the Brady Bunch movies. He was some kind of evil demon, never really told you for sure, but as a small town sheriff he kept the town running smoothly. It only lasted one season, but it was probably the best show I've ever seen on TV. It was one of those shows where you cheered for the bad guy (him). FROM: Chris Shaver DATE: Saturday September 22, 2001 -- 12:15:13AM In the late 80's on ABC there was a short lived sitcom that I remember as one of the funniest I had ever seen. Mr. Sunshine. It was about a blind college professor. I can't remember who played Mr. Sunshine but he had a beard I believe. And while I can't remember any of the jokes, gags or scenerios, I can tell you that it is to date the only show that has ever made me laugh so hard I threw up. While watching the very first episode, I was eating some sort of Chef Boyardee canned meal, and I literally laughed so hard I had to run to the bathroom to vomit. I must have been the only person that it had that effect on because the show didn't last beyond its first season and may not have lasted that long. FROM: Robert DATE: Saturday September 22, 2001 -- 12:24:53AM Chris: I remember Mr Sunshine as well. There was one episode where he had to fill in the lead role in some play because he was the only person who would read the lines (in Braile) while acting. Plus, he had that neighbor who hated him but he didn't know. FROM: Bon Von Cruris DATE: Monday October 8, 2001 -- 4:31:48AM WKRP IN CINCINATTI was the show of all shows. Come on, Jan Smithers and Loni Anderson - need I say more? FROM: o DATE: Saturday October 13, 2001 -- 8:56:13PM i cant believe say what kareoke was canceled FROM: Danny DATE: Thursday October 18, 2001 -- 4:40:54PM Do you remember the t.v. show NARC FROM: Brandon DATE: Monday October 22, 2001 -- 3:52:51PM Idiot Box on MTV, with Alex Winters (Bill from "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure"). Sketch comedy with skits like "The Burrowing Bishop" or "Eddie the flying gimp". That was some of the best humor of it's time. FROM: partizan92 DATE: Tuesday October 23, 2001 -- 10:55:34AM Freaks & Geeks FROM: partizan92 DATE: Tuesday October 23, 2001 -- 10:58:14AM Add You Can't Do That On Television and The Young Ones to the above list. FROM: Robert DATE: Tuesday October 23, 2001 -- 12:49:16PM Sports Night was excessively talk-y and dramatic. That sucks for a comedy. FROM: Will DATE: Tuesday November 20, 2001 -- 5:05:44PM My favorite cancelled shows include The Weird Al Show (fortunately I taped em all), The Young Ones, Over The Top (Tim Curry and Annie Potts), Nickelodeon's Roundhouse, The Famous Teddy Z and Partners (both with Jon Cryer), early Ren & Stimpy, Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch, and Wonderbug! Plus two from this year- Wolf Lake and You Don't Know Jack. FROM: Jessica Ford DATE: Wednesday November 21, 2001 -- 9:39:27PM Why did popular get cancelled. I wanted to know if Brooke died or not. FROM: al f. She is Lisa Simpson's voice! Suddenly it all makes sense. FROM: jk DATE: Saturday January 12, 2002 -- 3:58:55 pm Homicide was indeed brilliant...until they got new writers for the final two seasons and got rid of all the actors who were not beautiful. I went to the bldg where it was filmed in Baltimore and had my picture taken beside the bright blue pillars...it was a very emotional moment. It is still on Court TV but I don't know what time. Once in a while TV Guide does a story called "The Best Shows You're Not Watching" and that was definitely an appropriate article for HLOTS. FROM: Sayre DATE: Saturday January 19, 2002 -- 10:24:18 pm Hey why were the wayans bros. cancelled? i loved them. and then theyre are all those good, little kid cartoons that got cancelled, its like why the characters cant age. and whats up with simpsons. did anyone hear about how they're being cancelled this march? FROM: Ryan DATE: Tuesday January 22, 2002 -- 9:43:32 am Brooklyn Bridge was an outstanding show. That's one I wouldn't mind seeing in repeats... FROM: kevin DATE: Wednesday February 20, 2002 -- 10:35:04 pm Jonny Winnebago wa the best cancelled show but im not sure if anyone remembers it FROM: frank0 DATE: Saturday March 2, 2002 -- 9:28:00 am Anyone remember that show "Get A Life"? It featured Chris Elliott, who at that time was best known for a bunch of weirdo characters he would do periodically on the old David Letterman show. Come to think of it, it's probably what he still is best known for. I don't remember much, except he plays this loser in his late 20's or early 30's who delivers newspapers on a bicycle and lives with his pops. Pretty good stuff. FROM: Ryan DATE: Saturday March 2, 2002 -- 11:07:00 am That's one of Matt's favorite TV shows! FROM: Bob Burke DATE: Friday March 22, 2002 -- 9:01:54 pm What happened to 'Philly'? FROM: Charles DATE: Thursday February 6, 2003 -- 11:01:40 pm I totally agree with the Idiot Box. Eddy the flying gimp was freakin' hilarious. I used to do a pretty mean impression. Anybody remember another sketch comedy show on about the time as The State and Exit 57? It had this skit w/a guy (as a little boy in a hat w/a ribbon) who was "bored" and talking to himself and his dad who was out of camera in another room. Finally, he says, in a sort of bratty british accent, "I know what I want, I know what I want!...I want a Pony!" Ring any bells out there?? FROM: Tony DATE: Monday February 6, 2006 -- 11:56:59 pm My So-Called Life was one of the best shows to be cancelled. It didn't stand a chance up against NYPD Blue. The last episode kind of left you guessing. In a way that's good because you can decide for yourself, and draw your own conclusions about who she picked. Just don't understand how a show that made you feel like you were participating not just watching could be cancelled like that. ABC isnt cool. FROM: hans DATE: Tuesday February 7, 2006 -- 1:17:27 am how about the Mario and Luigi TV show. Any time a cartoon video game is adapted to film you have to be sad to see it go. FROM: marcie DATE: Thursday February 9, 2006 -- 4:11:25 pm Hey, I really did dig NASTY BOYS on NBC in the early 90's. That Craig Hurley sure turned my knob- I love that boy. FROM: Dave Walls [E-Mail] DATE: Thursday March 30, 2006 -- 12:27:40 pm To add something from this season: Reunion on FOX. Sure, the acting wasn't always the greatest, but the story line was intriguing enough where I wanted to keep watching. Unfortunetly, getting bumped for a month (World Series) right after debuting killed any shot it had of surviving. I don't remember it being that strong a show but would love to get the name if anyone can remember it. Probably aired in the 90's. Firefly - Cowboy space pirates! Who couldn't love it. It's like the Han/Chewy lifestyle, with great acting, writing, action and humor!
Dead Like Me - canceled just when the secondary characters (Joy, Reggie) really started getting interesting. There was a show on MTV (I think) about some twentysomething Gen-Xers who lived in Austin, Texas. That's all I can remember about it, but it was funny.

does anyone know the early 90's sitcom whose theme song was ob-la-di ob-la-da by the beatles? The only thing I remember about the intro was a girl quickly grabbing a glass of orange juice off the counter

YES!!!! does anyone know what the name of the show on MTV in the 90's was called?? It was in Austin Texas and was about a 20's Gen-Xer girl and her 2 stupid guy freinds?? I have been dying to remember the name. There was an Armadillo in the opening credits?? What was it called??
BTW, the best show from my kid days was on Nickalodeon when they first started, called The Tomorrow People. It was a BBC show from the 1970's about telepathic kids. LOVED it!

How about Misfits of Science, the Flash, Firefly, Wolf Lake, and Werewolf to name a few. I blinked and they all got cancelled. These were shows I looked foward to. Starting to think I'm jinxed. Too many of the shows I loved and were really good just get canned for no good reason. Anyway...done complaining...but it still gets me riled up.

I am trying desperately to remember the name of a sci fi show that came on in 1988 (or possibly 87 or 90) I am fairly sure it didn't last more than one season.
I remember it came out at about the same time as Quantam Leap. It had this little strange silver ball robot thing that followed this guy around and talked to him and stuff. Please help me with the name of this show (and any websites) My husband thinks I am nuts.
From: Rachel
I do know the name of that show with the girl whose dad lived in another planet. I believe it is called Out of this World, or something like that. And I don't know the name of the show with the little silver robot ball, but I do remember that show, so you are not nuts!!!!! Peace!

My all time favorites!!! (some have already been mentioned)
1) VAMPIRE HIGH 2) POPULAR 3) SAILOR MOON 4) FREAKY STORIES 5) ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK 6) GOOSEBUMPS (remember the dummy?) 7) TALES FROM THE CRYPT(not the cartoon one, there was one before that with real people, it was on really late) And there's this one animated show, I can't remember the name of it and I don't think it was very popular but it started off with some woman (black hair, long black dress) usually in a bar or club or something telling stories. There was one episode where two people fell in love in a cyber world, her character was a giesha and his was a boxer. Every episode had a different story but I liked them all. The first one I ever saw was where this undercover cop suspected her partner of something and killed his wife. She get's the death penalty and ends up in some weird prison. It was a one of those late night cartoons but I loved it and can't remember the name!! HELP!!! © 2008 The Daily Ping, all rights reserved.
