I like most any cereal of the "honey-n-nut" variety. And good raisin brans; none of that Kellogg's crap.

My mom would let us have just about any cereal we wanted. Except for anything with chocolate in it. That was the one exception. So no Cookie Crisp for us. I love Frosted Mini-Wheats. Also Corn Chex. Several different raisin brans. Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Golden Grahams. Fruity Pebbles. Crunch Berries. I was never a really big fan of Fruit Loops. I don't eat breakfast too often these days, though.

I also generally steer clear of most of the preservative filled crap that one finds in the cereal
isle at the local grocery store, and usually stick to any one of a number of granola varieties.
However the other night I would have killed for a bowl of Boo Berry, Frankenberry, or Count Chockula.
I of course would have had some, if not for the gelatin in the marshmallows. Though the craving was there,
I successfully avoided eating animal by-products.
The joys of being Vegan. Gelatin comes from ground up cattle hoofs and bones for those of you who don't know.
Does anyone know of a cereal similar to those mentioned above that is vegan?

My parents were the same way. It was shredded wheat (ain't no sugar on that) or Cheerios. But, after 18 years of that, I never had the urge to eat sugary cereals. On occasion I'll eat Peanut Butter Crunch or Frosted Mini-Wheats. Or, there's a really good cereal I get at Trader Joe's here in San Francisco that is a mix of granola and hemp seeds. It makes me feel gooooood...

My long-standing favorite has been Reese's Puffs - now THAT'S a cereal.

However, Cinnamon Puffins (all natural, mostly wheat) are darned tasty and come highly recommended. No sugary stuff, either.

i have heard that vegan marshmallows can be made but have yet to see them in cereal. but i'll bet somewhere on the internet one exists.

as for my fav cereal, when i was a kid it was "Os" or Fruit Loops. Now I'd say Peanut Butter Crunch.

Brant, I have heard about Vegan Marshmallows but have never tried to locate them. I trust soy as a substitute for many things but I am not sure that "marshmallows" are possible without animal products. I could be wrong of course. Maybe Rob M. knows something on the subjest as I know he is vegan as well. Rob M. probably does not realize that we know one another. Rob, here's a hint as to my identity-- you know me by a different name, an unfortunate nick-name I acquired early in my college career, and we went to college together. FYI -- there was a company that made vegan marshmallows (Emes), but they have discontinued the line. Here's a recipe for vegan marshmallows, should you feel adventurous.

Ryan, Thanks for the recipe. I will give it a try. Perhaps they can be dried and added to cereal for some Pseudo-Frankenberry goodness. At least the recipe doesn't involve tofu. Some vegan recipes are scary i.e. tofu jerky.

Sorry about my absence today from this ping, this is my forte since I am know as a Cereal Historian.
My favorite cereal of alltime is Frosted Rice Krispies. The cereal was discontinued in 1990, but returned to store shelves around march this year. I think my emails 4 years ago to kellogs may have influenced this decision. It may only be a cereal with sugar on it, but it has the best possible balance of sugar for a perfect tasts.
Oh's is probably the other cereal that has one of the most incredible tastes out there.
Any granola will do, and in turn make you doo.
Right now in the cereal cabinet I believe we have about 20 different cereals including: Frosted Mini Wheats, 3 types of Raisin Bran, Count Chocula, Boo Berry, Frankenberry, Nesquik, Basic 4, Fruit Loops, Rice Krispies Treats, Golden Grahams, 3 forms of Grape Nuts, Christmas Crunch and many more.
Watch for me to take over some cereal company or else.

I'm pretty sure that Reese's Puffs are vegan, if you can believe that. If you shop at a larger health food store (Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Trader Joes) you can often find vaguely healthy yet still delicious cereals, such as Peanut Butter Bumpers, which sustained me on a car ride from Minnesota to Colorado last spring.

When I was a kid I made my mother buy Lucky Charms and pick out the marshmallows. I would only eat the marshmallows--not the cereal. A whole box was good for about three small bowls.

Ok just for you.. Having been born and raised in Cereal City USA aka Battle Creek here are a few tips.
Grapenuts, Fruitloops and pebbles, and for those that do actually remember waffle-o's go G-R-E-A-T on ice cream. Having worked at on of the factories in that town there is nothing to compare to still hot off the line cereal at 3:30 in the morning on your break :)

Junky cereal doesnt get any better than Golden Grahams.

For healthy, I love 'Cracklin' Oat Bran and the old school fav 'Corn Bran'. Corn Bran is so hard to find nowadays, but when I was living in Virginia, the local Kroger sold it for under **$2** for a huge box. You gotta love that. :)

Wow, I am always a bit taken back when I see things that happened just prior to 9/11.

When I was at PSU, my cereal-obsessed friend Audra kept an up-to-the-minute guide of which dining halls offered Cocoa Puffs. (There were at least 8 dining halls on campus with varying menus.)

I reminded her of this when I spoke to her last fall because I literally think of her whenever I see Cocoa Puffs. The poor girl is terribly ill with Lupus and does not remember this, but I convinced her it was true :o).

In addition to this lovely story, I stand by my claim that I am personally responsible for cereal being available at every meal at PSU. There were times when my friends and I had no cash to go eat in town, yet everything on the menu was gross, so I joined an organization called the Residence Hall Advidory Board and suggested that cereal be served at every meal, morning noon and night. And it worked.

Now if I only had a degree that was actually USEFUL.

My favorite is Golden Grahams with chocolate milk a la Dave Walls, (Wednesday March 30, 2005 -- 8:46:27 pm) and I haven't even tried it yet. It just sounds so good. I just have to remember to get two extra things next time I go grocery shopping.

But from actual experience, my all time favorite cereal by a mile was Cap'N Crunch with Crunchberries, followed by Peanut Butter Crunch.

I also remember liking Freakies quite a bit. Corn Chex were, and still are, a big fave.

All time greats......Quisp, Krispy Kritters, Cap'n Crunch Vanilla Crunch, Lucky Charms and Nature Valley Granola!! By the way what were they thinking in the 70's to have a grape flavored cereal?!?!?......Sir Grapefellow....YUCH!
