Someone please explain this to me:
![]() Why would a Kit Kat bar have nonfat milk if it's going to have milk fat added in later? Wouldn't using regular milk trim the ingredient list down by one? I shall find out. I swear it. Comments

I called them yesterday, but it was after hours, so I called them today to check and here's the response: "You know, I don't know." FROM: Ryan DATE: Friday June 28, 2002 -- 10:13:23 am Interesting theory, Mark... FROM: DATE: Thursday July 4, 2002 -- 10:16:33 am maybe if they put milk with fat then there would be a different percentage so they separated it to make the right amount but i dont capitalize or punctuate so what would i know FROM: matt DATE: Saturday August 3, 2002 -- 1:18:36 am i just happened across this page by accident...and i'm completely perplexed. are you people really this bored? get a life! FROM: just wasted my time DATE: Sunday April 13, 2003 -- 7:01:59 pm nestle doesnt own hershey yet and lets hope they never do and it probably has something to do with the way the ingredients are added FROM: DATE: Wednesday May 14, 2003 -- 4:53:29 pm FROM: kyle DATE: Saturday September 13, 2003 -- 5:15:03 pm its cheaper to buy nofat milk and then add milk fat FROM: Daniel Bonasse DATE: Thursday November 27, 2003 -- 11:11:58 am I feel they made the ingredients like that to make it...what would you call it...Culturally Diverse. First you got the NONFAT MILK, then the MILK FAT. I think they put in the Nonfat, and then later realized that they left out those who are somewhat overweight (See, I'm tryin to be ethical here) and so then they added in the Milk FAT. Thank you! FROM: taking a break DATE: Thursday March 17, 2005 -- 10:18:15 am this reminds me of a great joke I heard a long time ago from some guy's stand up routine, FROM: Joseph DATE: Tuesday April 12, 2005 -- 4:07:41 pm It's simple economics. FROM: Ryan [E-Mail] DATE: Tuesday April 12, 2005 -- 6:22:47 pm Well, there you go! Thanks for finally wrapping up this mystery in a tidy bow, Joseph. FROM: chris DATE: Thursday June 16, 2005 -- 4:06:00 pm I have seen the answer multiple times and verified with Hershey. Every little thing that goes into products like these is measured very specifically. The amount of milkfat in any of the pre-made milks is not the exact amount they want in their product, so they add nonfat milk and then the exact amount of milkfat that they want. If they save a few bucks in the process so be it but that is not the driving force behind the madness.
From: Somebody
If you notice, the milk fat is listed later than the nonfat milk in the ingredients. They probably need a certain amount of milk fat to be added and since they can't measure it exactly in the milk, they go with the nonfat milk so they can add however much milk fat as they need to.
