One day, a number of years ago, I was filling out a form of some sort. I came to a blank asking for my driver's license number. Without skipping a beat, I was able to fill it in - by memory (or "by heart", as the kids say.)
Shortly thereafter, I'd like to think that a whole new world of brainpower opened up for me... but really, it didn't. In this fashion, I found I also memorized my main bank account numbers - even though both were ridiculously long and followed no set pattern. I felt good not having to search for that info every time I signed a check. I dubbed it accidental memorization. That is, I never intentionally tried to memorize my driver's license number (what great content that'd be!) but it just happened by seeing it so many times. Has this ever happened to you? I was worried that when I had to change numbers on the card that I had had since 1994, that I'd have trouble memorizing the new one... after a month or two of using it online, though, I had typed it enough that I had it memorized. For some odd reason, I can't memorize my Discover card number no matter how hard I try, though. FROM: Maria DATE: Friday March 22, 2002 -- 12:01:35 am At risk of sounding like a weirdo, I know all of my friends' phone numbers, my bank account, both credit card numbers, my social security number, my driver's license number, etc. I have a thing for numbers, apparently--I have to actually try NOT to hear someone's phone number being recited if I don't want to have it memorized. Sometimes I'll think of phone numbers and know they belong to someone but can't figure out who.
