Ummm, it looks like the girl that plays Padme/Queen Amidala. I also believe I've seen footage of her from one of the trailers out there that has her in this very outfit, ramping around in one of the fight scenes either with a gun or saber. I'm almost thinking it was the latest trailer out there. I can't remember the actresses name but she's been in other shows too.

Why yes, that is Natalie Portman (duh), and I forgot to address the fact that the page *WILL NOT* load for a lot of people until you add the "WWW" in there in front of it. Ahh, the chaos of trying to see a bit of bare belly skin and frantically sobbing at the 404's as they repeatedly pop-up...

That was one of the first things I tried btw when I got the message repeatedly. Guess it's force of habit...

In terms of Hollywood skin...

What in Hollywood is really worth going after? I'm not sure there's anyone there with any real substance. After all, they're *ACTORS* and therefore put on the act. If you expected to find that in Hollywood... I'd wager you're better off finding it anywhere but Hollywood. Maybe even Compton if you elect to look in Cali... it definitely would be more *REAL*...

So in a nutshell... if you're looking for a woman with substance... ummm... ::scratching chin:: Hmmmm... Y'know... I'll get back to you on where to look, haven't had such great luck in that area myself. ;-)

Marcus, the page will not load because the images directory checks the referrer. By putting the URL into the browsers address box you send "-" as a referrer and apache lets those referrers go through.

Obviously, the webmaster doesn't want to pay extra bandwidth bills and that's something people should respect. Considering the same photo is all over starwars.com I don't know why the ping is linking to someone's weblog with a link that doesn't work.

If he didn't want to be linked, he'd take it down. :-D Remember, the internet is but an outlet to find information (information superhighway), and if you can find it anywhere around the internet, of course people link to it/from it. Lord knows if Paul or Ryan link to anything on my server space (which at the moment there's not much worthwhile), I'd be more flattered than I would be disgruntled over the few k it saps up. If it crippled it all 'til it went down the crapper, well then, I'd surely have to realize what a wonderful site or piece of content I have up that has people glued to it in prime fashion to knock my bandwidth down. So far, that's never happened... yet it's not keeping me up at nights either. Mind you I run a racetrack website that gets tons of hits a month from one of my server spaces, so if he's that starving for bandwidth, it might be time to give up on Geocities...

Would you consider Google.com's image search engine an outrage because it finds images out there on the 'net? So why is this any different? They found something they wanted to discuss, posted a ping about it, and yet we are up in arms based on the content provided. Much like TiVo or ReplayTV (noting another ping) you can just zoom right on by it if you don't like it (at least the government hasn't sought to track us all and determine why we go past certain sites... yet), and I very much doubt that this site (outside of the "Super Blue Stuff" or "Senior Prank" postings) draws the kind of web hits to cripple the other guy's poor bandwidth. Not like they linked the image directly in the ping so it loads the image everytime you go to the default "TDP" page.

And j, jon, son, or joe... if you don't like "The Daily Ping" so much, why are you here? I guess you're so bored you have to fall into the disgruntled spammer category, eh? What'd they do, make fun of the name of a product you thought diligently on?

Alas, if you'd read what I said about substance, you'd denote that nothing was said about ::drooling:: over Natalie's airbrushed tummy. I think that was the point of the Ping that you failed to comprehend... hence "Photoshopped" included in the title. I think that's exactly why Monica made her comment as well, because it does look like an amateur Photoshop artist went in and took the airbrush tool to her 10-minute abs...

And the "www" pre-domain directory works, irregardless of how or why, it just does, and I often try both to see what comes back in return; much as if you find a site with anything but "www" listed (sorta' how most of the cjb sites work) I very often try inputting a general "www" to see what the default directory provides. I typically also make sure to close off all of my directories when I link so as to have the page load that much quicker rather than hunt around for where it locates it's default page. Granted I don't go overboard and type the default/index filename for every site (bit of guessing) but closing the directory off in linkage is good practice, especially in site design. Every fraction of a second helps...

Not that it's necessarily an element of professionalism or lack thereof, it's just a trick of the trade. Nobody is perfect, but we all learn as time goes on. Perhaps even j, joe, jeff, son or the rest of the family will learn to look before they leap before spamming. Otherwise they fall into another "j" word...

Marcus, you're missing the point. The entire problem can be fixed if they followed basic nettiquette. Everything on the internet is not fair game, its obvious the webmaster is protecting his bandwidth. There's nothing stopping you from copying the image and putting it on your own webspace.

As for being flattered because someone wants to use your bandwidth, well that's subjective. You're also ignore the very likely scenario that so-and-so weblogger is doing this because it became a problem. The site in question posts a lot of cool stuff and I'm sure he's doing this because he's been burned before. Regardless, the smart thing to do would be to link at starwars.com and get the big full version. If you hit refresh often enough its the splash page at starwars.com. It ain't exactly rare.

Paul: If you read and understood what I was saying about the referrer link, you would know that you can link to it. Link to the archive page (he's using blogger) that provides that link. Its actually pretty simple.

Secondly, nothing defeats the entire purpose of the web. If someone doesn't want others to embed their photos they have every right to do what they want with their webspace.

Actually, I don't feel I missed the point, as contrary I believe you missed the point. I don't even see them violating netiquette. The web is a source of information, and the ability to link to/from a site or element isn't something where you must first request permission, it's almost *IMPLICIT* that you're allowed that right to link to anything from anywhere as long as you don't host it yourself. What *IS* an area where you must ask permission is if you download and serve the content from your own server, as your own (which is to say if Paul and Ryan downloaded the image and stored it on their own server without asking permission). That's basic netiquette...

What you refer to is excess red-tape and a haughty over-extension of the idea of netiquette for a self-serving or excuse-driven need. It's sorta' like asking your girlfriend/wife if it's okay to hold her hand... do you do that or do you violate the new "unabridged" testament of relationship etiquette?

I didn't think so...

Agreed.

It's not violating netiquette in any way to link (or "deep link" if you prefer) to an image on someone's site -- it still requires an action by a visitor to bring that image up. What would have been a violation of netiquette would have been if Paul put an IMG tag and pointed directly to the image on another server. In that case, every viewer to our page would end up using someone else's bandwidth. A pretty easy distinction, if you ask me.

What's the "hotness" here? Her hip-huggers are too high-rise, that won't get me half-eay to normal body heat. Surely, when they make an action movie, a lot lower low-rise hiphuggers can keep the heroine's ultimates from slipping down to where they can no longer be considered "outerwear" suitable to wear in public?

Even Susan George's "half-way-only-down" hipsters in the Clint Eastwood film "The Gauntlet" or the biker chick's just a bit lower bare belly in Tom Loughlin's "Born Losers" were umpteen times hotter (and in my mind not really popping the top of the thermometer all the way either) than Natalie Portman's outfit in this subject photo of this thread.

I haven't seen the movie yet so maybe there's more of her lower belly exposure in the film, and I know she is an attractive actress, but if this photo is the best that can be "promoted" (and generally movie promotions just show the few seconds of the "hottest" scenes), then I think that a lot of "red-blooded males" have been "de-blooded" by political correctness to the point where they will accept a presentation of an image of a "hot" woman which simply is "not".
