I'm glad the popularity in Texas determines somethings future success in the U.S.A. When I was in Illinois at a festival two weeks ago the kids were drinking this stuff up. It may have been the 49 grams of sugar that kept them coming back for more.

Isn't it all just cherry cola? The wonder of bottled Dr. Pepper is it's relative stability and lack of perfume notes. Most of the other brands I've tried are often good sometimes, and bad at others depending on the batch. Dr. Pepper is also often inconsistent, but it is the least inconsistent. Whatever that artificial flavoring is, it must take a team of chemists to tame. Dr. Pepper from the soda fountain however is always a crap shoot.

I tried Red Fusion this evening. It tastes like DDP mixed with cherry lollipop flavoring watered-down to the point where there's barely any flavor. No thank you, sir, I do not want another.

I think the soda companies are reaching extreme boredom and seek to try any alternative mixture/concoction they can come up with hoping to hit a new-age homerun. Most often, this results in horrible results like Crystal Pepsi (nothing horrible but nothing pleasing either), Mt. Dew Code Red (how can anyone drink this stuff? Seriously!), etc. etc. Even to my tastebuds (sorry to the VCoke people), even Vanilla Coke falls into this category to me. I just can't find any appeal in any of it.

I honestly, much as a non-Diet Coke fan as I am, I could actually do the Diet Lemon-Coke concoction, but eerily... that's because it tastes more like drinking some fabricated lemon-like substance than actually drinking a Coke mixed with "Lemon", as in "REAL" lemon. One of my best friends actually thinks that Coke found a way to bottle Pledge (yes, the lemon-fresh wood treatment agent) and sell it as a soft drink. In a way... it makes me wonder if there's any other wood treatment agents that taste better than Diet Coke. Might have to try experimenting myself...

I still have yet, in irony (as a Pepsi drinker), tried the Pepsi derivative of the lemonized-Cola wonderment. Perhaps it's just the idea of taking something that tastes fine as is, and adding anything to it (other than cherry, which I'd welcome a Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi or Wild Cherry Pepsi One) is like drawing a set of eyebrows on the Mona Lisa. No need necessary...

Of all of the new sodas, the only two that stand out as major successes are Sierra Mist and Surge. Even then, Sierra Mist is a Sprite rip-off (how original); and Surge is something akin to mixing Sprite and Mt. Dew/Mello Yello. Not quite sure if it's a homerun or not, but it is bearable, even if I'd settle for a Mello Yello or Mt. Dew.

I can say I tried the newly released Blueberry flavored Cola from Pepsi the other day (while at a gas station in the Danville, IL area). Upon first sip I was polarized by the sheer strength of the taste (stronnnnng Blueberry taste, it's no wonder the stuff is more bluish-carbonated water than dark brown cola in look), but after drinking much of the bottle, I found it to actually be pretty respectable compared to the other ludicrously wierd/distasteful attempts. Not saying that I'd switch from Diet Pepsi or Diet Dr. Pepper or anything to it on a daily basis, but it's farrrrrr better than the idea of taking a citrus-like soda (Mt. Dew) and mixing cherry flavoring in with it.

As far as Pibb and Dr. Pepper, I actually like them both (edge to the Doc). However, if Pibb Xtra is less "Pibb-like" than it was before, the only thing I can think of is that Coke is trying to tame the taste of Pibb down, which has always been a bit more on the sweeter side of Dr. Pepper, which as the king of all Pepper-ish sodas, has the right balance of carbonation, kick, and taste. Mr. Pibb has always been more the equivelant of a "NEW COKE" for Dr. Pepper, an attempt to make it sweeter. It's done better than "NEW COKE" obviously... but that isn't saying a whole hell of a lot in my opinion. Yet, I can do the Pibb... I wasn't ever much of a fan of old Coke and "NEW" Coke was just a sweeter old Coke to me.

As far as the whole idea of using Texas as a target market... isn't that what we did politically? hehe Let Bush destroy Texas first, make Houston the smog capital of the U.S., before finding a way to ruin our economy through and through from sea to shining sea with total lacking of regard for our environment or our economic stability as a whole? :-D I'm kinda' glad to see that National Debt Counter rolling again, I sorta' missed being in the "Red" after all of those years of prosperity and striving to develop a government surplus we pee'ed away by pushing investment in companies like Enron, MCI/Worldcom, and AOL. I guess tax breaks and increased spending are a natural phenomenon amongst us Americans that we should just come to terms with.

Oh why couldn't McCain or Hatch or Gore have won? At least the mindlessness would've been less diminishing. Oh well, at least Governor Ryan of Illinois hasn't announced his running for the next Presidential election. I think I'd move to Cuba...

Anyone know how to say "I want a Dr. Pepper" in Cuban-speak? Just for future reference...

I conducted a taste test between Dr. Pepper and Mr. Pibb for a school project, and I'd like to share a few things I learned in the process: the official name for these "pepperlike drinks" is "spicy cherry" -- so, Jed, not just a cherry cola-- Cherry Coke and Mr. Pibb have very different flavors. Incidentally, Mr. Pibb was preferred every single time in my taste test.

I much prefer the Blue Sky brand's rendition, Dr. Becker, to the other spicy cherry drinks; nevertheless, Pibb was the historic favorite, if only because of its relative scarcity in my market.

All I have to say is I am a big Wild Cherry Pepsi fan,but I also do like Dr.Pepper and Mr.Pibb tastes alomost exactly like Dr.Pepper,weather they will admit it or not......Cherry Coke and Mountain Dew Code Red,BAD,WILD CHERRY PEPSI GOOD!?!?!?!?!?!

I'll stick with the original -Dr Pepper , and not a cheap knock off !!!!

Mr. Pibb was good...can't find it anymore... Tried the Mr. Pibb Xtra....what is the "Xtra" flavor????? Not cherry....thought it was like Vanilla....oh, well, can't find it anymore, I guess that's that !!!

I like both flavors but it's just too bad i'm not a soda lover! They both almos taste da same but they both have their own good sparks on da tongue. It's makes me feel tingly on my tongue after I've taste it!!! hahaha
