I'm an obsessive catalogger. I searched a dozen CD database programs to find the perfect one for storing information about my CD collection. After that program's development came to a halt, I took nearly two years before finding another program to take its place (my decision swung heavily by the author's willingness to convert my old database to his software's format). I would never have thought that a high quality DVD catalogging program would be available as freeware (and optionally, as inexpensive shareware). Boy was I wrong: DVD Profiler kicks ass! Keeping track of your DVDs is as easy as entering the UPC code on the back cover. The rest of the information is downloaded from a central server, providing you with IMDB-like search capabilities on the subset that is your DVD collection. It also allows you to enter where you purchased the DVD (fully customizable), how much you paid for it, your rating for the movie, and your rating for the DVD. To top it off, you can also keep track of your wish list (which provides one-click price comparisons at the major online retailers) and your "on order" items. I love coming across an application that feels right from the moment I start using it. Opera did it for me, CDStore97 did it for me, The Bat! did it for me, and now DVD Profiler is the latest addition to that list. I encourage you to give it a shot. As the cliche goes, "You'll be glad you did!" Comments

DATE: Saturday October 19, 2002 -- 11:11:36 am I might use this when my DVD collection goes beyond counting on my fingers and toes. FROM: Paul [E-Mail] DATE: Saturday October 19, 2002 -- 11:16:27 am I agree. We've got a fair number of DVDs, but not enough to warrant downloading this (and running it on Virtual PC :) -- yet. FROM: Rob [E-Mail] DATE: Monday October 21, 2002 -- 8:46:51 am Wow... this thing ROCKS. And it's free. The ad bar is really easy to ignore, too. Makes me wish I had a DVD-ROM drive or a bar code scanner, though, to make it even quicker, but it's really not so bad to just type in the UPC. I've only put a handful in so far, but it took no time at all. FROM: Greg DATE: Wednesday October 30, 2002 -- 4:39:26 pm Got a Cuecat? If so, go to http://www.goldsteinsoftware.com/catnip.htm and grab Catnip, which decodes the proprietary Cuecat codes into straight text. Why, pray tell, do I tell you to do this? FROM: Jolt DATE: Tuesday January 28, 2003 -- 5:39:22 pm Just curious - what CD audio database do you recommend? FROM: Don DATE: Wednesday January 28, 2004 -- 2:52:59 pm Personally, any specific program for catalogging any one type of item is too limited and can become obsolete very quickely. The best answer to any catalogging is to invest a little money and some time in a good database program such as Excel. FROM: Paul DATE: Wednesday January 28, 2004 -- 2:56:01 pm ...a good database program such as Excel. FROM: Don DATE: Wednesday January 28, 2004 -- 2:59:45 pm Sorry! I've been spening too much time in Excel. Exel is truly a lousy database program. The program I really meant to say was Access. FROM: Paul DATE: Wednesday January 28, 2004 -- 4:11:43 pm The program I really meant to say was Access. FROM: Ryan [E-Mail] DATE: Thursday January 29, 2004 -- 11:24:13 am Jolt -- I recommend OrangeCD. Take a look at this Ping. FROM: Theo DATE: Sunday February 29, 2004 -- 8:29:15 pm I was wondering if dvd profiler was shut down. For two day i have not been able to access the site. Someone please help me with this as i need to know if i have to do it on my own. Thanks in advance. FROM: KillJoy DATE: Sunday February 29, 2004 -- 11:17:01 pm It has been down for a couple of days. I just got my collection up in running on DVD Profiler. All I can say is WOW...what a time saver. I had been kicking around the idea of creating my own movie database when I stubled on to this. Graphics, Descriptions, killer reports.....etc. This thing rocks! I hope they get it back up soon, and have a few more to enter... FROM: Woody DATE: Tuesday March 2, 2004 -- 10:55:05 am Any news on when the site/program will be back up and running? I need to add and run reports - I have gone cold turkey cos it is not working FROM: Joseph DATE: Tuesday March 2, 2004 -- 12:46:46 pm Do they make something like this for my wife's shoes? How about my socks? There aren't any comments here yet. This Ping is lonely.
