I agree, though, the idea of calling it the not-so-vanilla vanilla is rather lame. "We're good, but not that good. Really, don't even bother."

From that slogan I can tell if I were to break open a can of "not so" Vanilla Pepsi, I'll just be drinking Pepsi. I give it a month before it's completely off the shelves. I wonder how many millions of dollars they sunk into this gem.

Lisa's right -- Crystal Pepsi came around somewhere in the early 90s and was basically a clear liquid that tasted like Pepsi. Here's a big picture of it.

Oohh..I miss Crystal Pepsi!! My family and I drank mass quantities of the stuff. When we heard it was being discontinued, we stocked up on it, buying up remaining stock from the stores..we were drinking Crystal Pepsi for at least 2 years after it was finished. *sigh*

As for Vanilla Pepsi, I liked it, because I thought Vanilla Coke was a little too much Vanilla. The slogan does suck, though..

I thought the slogan wasn't referring to a lower level of vanilla than Coke's version, but to the idea it's not boring (a less common use of the word "vanilla").

A Wall Street Journal article confirms that Pepsi's slogan refers to their "lighter" vanilla flavoring.

If they had used it as you mentioned, Robert, it would have been a heck of a lot more creative.

I am not much of a coke fan. There vanilla coke is too much. The vanilla pepsi is not too bad, doesn't mean I will buy it regularly. I have pretty much stopped buying it because it causes such tooth damage. The vanilla in the pepsi is just mild enough to be enjoyable.

When I read the Vanilla Pepsi slogan on the Ping, I actually assummed that it was the alternative definition of vanilla that was intended. I still thought it was pretty lame though.
Imagine my disappointment now I know that no pun was intended.

I should say that the Diet Pepsi Vanilla is amazing as far as diet drinks go. You can really taste the aspartame in Diet Pepsi, but in Diet Vanilla, the vanilla sort of masks the aspartame! Seriously, try it if you get a chance.

HMmm... I'm pretty sure the BDSM/alternative lifestyle lingo was what they were hinting at with the NOT-SO-VANILLA vanilla comment. Just look at the commercial with the two guys in the cola delivery trucks. The Coke guy is listening to tame (/lame) music with no sub-woofer action... and then the cool Pepsi guy shows what he's packing and gets serious street credit with his crappy choice in music...

What was my point. Oh yes, I'm pretty sure the pun was intended. And if it truly wasn't... I suppose that doesn't surprise me. Just look at all the other brilliant slogans:

"Starburst, keeps your butt company"

What?!! If I ate that crap I sure as hell wouldn't store it in my ass. Just imagine the look on your friends face when you hand him one of those tasty treats.

My local retailer told me that they were discontinueing the diet vanella pepsi product. Has anyone else heard this.

Coca-cola discontinued Vanilla Coke (Diet & Regular) in Dec 2005. Looks like Pepsi is getting set to do the same thing as of this date. If you like it, better go out and buy it up quick--or you'll wind up paying an outrageous fee for it on e-bay ( as the vanilla Cokes are being sold for now) if you really miss it later!

i have been trying to find a way to email pepsi because i am a dedicated pepsi vanilla drinker and am so tired of the cherry and dr pepper flavored drinks this was a nice change why don't they get rid of the lemon or lime flavored crap that they have out now. i used to like pepsi light which had a nice light lemon flavor but that new stuff is disguisting. i have gone to all the stores in the area and they are not carrying the vanilla pepsi anymore and it truly dissappoints me. do you know how to tell them? all my friends that try some of my drink love it and i think it was not enough time for it to catch on!!!!! how do i let them know?

i loved pepsi vanilla and now they took it off the market for what? a new pepsi with lime! gross i hope we get it back in ND again that is all i like to drink now.. so mine is to just get the word out to bring it back to ND area i go through cases after case if i could buy it now but they took it off the shelfs in all the stores... i agree with the person on top of this page to BRING IT BACK GET RID OF THE OTHER NASTY STUFF BRING PEPSI VANILLA BACK PLEASE!!!
