It has happened. One of my favorite shirts is now demonstrating a mystery stain. It's a very small stain. I'm not sure where it came from (detergent?) but just washing and drying isn't doing it. This isn't the first time this has happened. I had a white t-shirt that had to be retired to rag status lately after it developed some yellow stains on it. These stains apparently came from thin air. (Or, could it really be my detergent?) But when mystery stains happen to your favorite clothing, it's like the writing on the wall. "It's going to go away someday. You'll have to retire it." Mystery stains do their best to break that retirement date up a few months, or so. That's when you call in... Shout. I'm not the only one who gets mystery stains on clothing, am I? Comments

DATE: Thursday September 2, 2004 -- 9:29:16 am I used to get orange stains on my clothes in this one apartment I lived in; I determined that it was RUST (!) coming from the washing machine, yet they would not and could not fix it. It was very frustrating. FROM: Rob [E-Mail] DATE: Thursday September 2, 2004 -- 11:33:42 am For a time, we had orange colored stains on our clothes, too. And it actually turned out to be a problem with the dryer. Not sure if it was rust or what, but a new belt on the dryer fixed everything. Thankfully, those days are long gone... FROM: Joseph DATE: Thursday September 2, 2004 -- 5:08:08 pm I find that my mystery stains usually have more to do with poor food aim-- hand to mouth coordination--than anything truly a mystery. FROM: Joseph DATE: Thursday September 2, 2004 -- 5:14:03 pm My best (worst) mystery stain story: while in college, my room mate washed and dried a roller ball pen, which were sort of new at the time. The cap came off of the pen and the rear end of the pen lodged in the vent holes in the back of the dryer. The pen stuck straight out, writing end out and it didn't explode--rather, it drew curly cues all over my nice load of white T-shirts, underwear and socks as they tumbled by. What else do you have in college? That was basically my entire wardrobe besides jeans. FROM: Ryan [E-Mail] DATE: Thursday September 2, 2004 -- 9:28:57 pm You probably could have sold those clothes as modern art. "Washer Line Drawings." FROM: jk DATE: Thursday September 2, 2004 -- 9:44:48 pm .....kind of like a Spirograph design! I hate to say it, but I would have liked to have seen the outcome. FROM: MollyCule DATE: Thursday September 2, 2004 -- 10:10:23 pm This is pretty much off topic, but I once set my dryer on fire by forgetting to remove an underwire bra. FROM: Joseph DATE: Friday September 3, 2004 -- 10:44:13 am I knew my room mate's thoughtless ways before I put my clothes in the dryer, and always made a habit of making sure the coast was clear before running laundry. However, the black pen in the black hole in the back of the dryer escaped my probing eye. That made the disaster burn all the worse. FROM: redgptee DATE: Friday September 17, 2004 -- 2:17:15 pm mysterious yellow stains on white clothes are usually attributed to bleach stains... it happens when the water is either too hard or too soft to fully rinse the clothes... try using less bleach or adding some blueing to your whites. FROM: Kara DATE: Sunday November 21, 2004 -- 10:54:09 pm Last year when I lived in the dorm, I had a real mystery. Most of my panties are black thongs and when I would get them out of the dryer and fold them, I would notice dried white stains on the crotch area of my thongs. Obviously, I know that it is normal for a healthy 18 year old girl to produce wetness in that area during the day which will look white when dried, but this was AFTER I had washed them and dried them. I just passed it off several wash times as the detergent not getting all my 'juice' out, and this is kind of gross, but it turns out that a guy from the same floor as the laundry was taking my panties (and other girls) panties out of the driers and 'cumming' in them and then putting them back. This was unbelievable to me that someone would do that, so I just want to alert others to the fact that this may be happening if you have mystery stains on your 'clean' panties too. FROM: Rob [E-Mail] DATE: Monday November 22, 2004 -- 1:07:10 pm I don't know if that last one's serious or not, but I feel like a 12 year old just reading it. FROM: Ken DATE: Friday December 17, 2004 -- 8:59:52 pm OMFG! that is so dusgusting y would u share that with us! i do not wanna no about you "normally" discharging on your thongs. Even worse, you bring in the disgusting guy cumming all over them. Eww. when has it become acceptable for girls to discuss their periods and other personal things in public? The girls at the lunch table talk about it all the time and we r all like eww we r eating! and they get mad when we talk about weed, omg FROM: Merle [E-Mail] DATE: Saturday December 18, 2004 -- 10:28:44 am Shared washers and dryers are the worst part of living in an apartment. I can deal with the noise and being unable to upgrade major appliances, but people are not very considerate in the laundry room. FROM: Joseph P. DATE: Saturday September 3, 2005 -- 12:20:11 pm Ok, Ok lets get back to Kara's panties. I am not interested in the guy that was busting nuts in your panties Kara just the panties themselfs and the 18 year old "Natural" discharge that you experience throughout the day. Cant lie that sounds pretty awsome right about now. So do you notice much more of this dischard when you get sexualy excited during the day, I meen after sliding your panties off at the end of the day (or when ever) and noticing your regular white dischard is quite large you think back to to made you get so excited. In anycase, please drop me a line I would love to talk about your panties. FROM: david DATE: Thursday October 27, 2005 -- 7:15:12 pm search google for "acidic sweat and health effects" to see the probable answer FROM: LiY DATE: Saturday June 17, 2006 -- 2:06:41 pm omg..we do NOT need to know about you discharging in your panties...let alone,a guy cumming in them.why dont you keep this to yourself sweetheart.you make me sick.gross FROM: concerned dad DATE: Sunday June 25, 2006 -- 8:20:29 pm Hey... FROM: Anna DATE: Thursday July 20, 2006 -- 1:13:49 pm The charge is definitely from MASTURABATION!!!! BIG TIME!!!!!! FROM: Joseph DATE: Thursday July 20, 2006 -- 2:56:47 pm Joseph P: FROM: Tony J DATE: Friday August 11, 2006 -- 4:25:03 pm I have had two new (and expensive) shirts ruined by mysterious brown stains on different occasions. They went in the wash 'clean' and came out covered in brown blotches like they had been worn by a mad axeman. Nothing else in the load was affected.

Had the same exact problem and just figured out for sure what it is. The cleaning spray I use in my apartment has bleach in it. So 1) I could have been getting the spray directly on my clothes while cleaning 2) (definitely more likely) is after I clean I throw the rag I used into the hamper with my clothes! As a test I just sprayed some of the cleaner onto an old black sock, sure enough, it was instantly covered with the orange stain. I feel like a complete idiot now, but at least I know how to put an end to this.

This is making me crazy! This was the first time I wore the shirt [and look up cute in the dictionary, and there's a pic of me in this crisp white shirt!) to fly to LA and a coffee-like stain appeared all over the back of it and on the front. I thought it had to be the x-rays at airport security, but can find nothing about that ever happening.
