I'd put the theme song to The White Shadow at the top of my list. Funky-ass music to start one of the more underrated shows of the 70's.

No, no to all above. By far the best jam for a theme song was Barney Miller. It started off with those heavy lone electric bass riffs, joined first by a sizzling high hat, bongos and then off to full jammin' jazz ensemble complete with a wild horn section. IIRC, I think the theme song actually won jazz awards.

Ooooh, I'm jammin' now.

Dukes of Hazzard was a good one. My Mom just got me the first season on DVD and I can listen to it all the time. Or at least until I want to take Waylon's guitar and smash it over my head. My vote would have to be for Hill Street Blues. No words, just good music.

I'm troubled that no one has mentioned the theme song from "the Brady Bunch" - It told a story, for criminy sake! A whole story! And any song you can listen to while watching endentured servant, Ann B. Davis's disembodied head gets the thumbs up from me!

And what about the theme song from "Bosom Buddies"? Or was I the only one who liked seeing Forrest Gump in a dress? or was that in the 80's? Am I giving Peter Scolari a longer career than he actually had?

Bosom Buddies, though a great show, was indeed released in the 80s. It only ran for a season or two, IIRC.

I'm only adding this because it was on as late as 1971; Hogan's Heroes. I was at an Air Force Base outside of London many years ago getting a flight physical done. I heard the theme on muzak in the waiting room... sheesh...
