Thelonious Monk

On this day, I’ve talked about David Lee Roth and Mario Lopez before – with good reason. After all, we wouldn’t have “Jump” or Saved by the Bell: The College Years without ’em. But today I feel it’s my duty to Ping about Thelonious Monk.

The problem is that I don’t know much about him. Monk’s in that file in my head labeled, “Really Good Musicians I Know Nothing About.” I did perchance listen to a piece of his on the radio Saturday night – covering Duke Ellington – and enjoyed it. But all I know about Monk is what I read on the Wikipedia page.

Still, today is a good day – and Monk should be saluted. (And yes, I’m following the Birthday Law today. Well… Law #1, anyway.)
