While in Vegas, a colleague and I stopped by Everything Coca-Cola to try their special "International" drinks. For a small fee we got to sample 16 different Coke-produced beverages from around the world. Things were going well until we tried... Beverly. Beverly, from Italy, is easily the most vile thing I've ever attempted to drink. It is clear, bubbly, and has no real scent. But drink it, and you start - start! - with black licorice. From there it only gets worse. Imagine a pot of decaying flowers mixed with the most bitter liquid you can think of. That's a start. It attacked my tongue, upset my taste buds, and ultimately offended me. That's right - Beverly offended me. Has any other Pinger tried Beverly (and thus can vouch for me) - or, care to share what the worst drink you've ever had is? Comments

DATE: Monday November 14, 2005 -- 10:32:30 am We did the taste test when we visited Coca-Cola in Atlanta a number of years back... I don't remember all the varieties we tried, but there were definitely some pretty painful drinks there. FROM: Greg DATE: Monday November 14, 2005 -- 12:54:07 pm Worse than Tab!?! FROM: COD DATE: Monday November 14, 2005 -- 1:43:59 pm There was a South American Coke product at the Coke Museum that was like liquid crack - you just couldn't stop drinking the stuff. I wish I could remember exactly what it was... FROM: Joseph DATE: Monday November 14, 2005 -- 6:04:28 pm COD FROM: Paul DATE: Monday November 14, 2005 -- 10:54:24 pm Beverly makes Tab look like god's gift to beverages. FROM: Bianca Beauchamp DATE: Friday November 18, 2005 -- 7:13:50 pm I was in Afghanistan back in the early 70's and they had a soft drink called "Afghani Cola". It came in a bottle without a regular cap. It had a ball inside. The ball was pushed down. When the pressure was released the drink could be gotten out. The drink was grape soda but it was made with real grapes and tasted great. Coca Cola found and shut them down and after that Coke was available. Afghani Cola was one of the great soft drinks while Coke is blah. FROM: Eddie [E-Mail] DATE: Tuesday January 3, 2006 -- 12:23:59 am I tried this drink in Vegas for New Years...the worst drink ever describes it perfectly. It does seem to have a potpourri taste to it which leaves a bitter after taste. It seemed like they boiled some flowers and added vile to the mixture. It truly is a memorable drink though. Once you've tried it, you'll never forget it. It probably is the nastiest drink in the world. I don't know how people in Italy can drink that sh*t. FROM: Jeff DATE: Friday February 17, 2006 -- 12:01:25 pm Tried it at World of Coca Cola in Atlanta. Nastiest drink I have ever tasted, hands down. I don't see how they could pay people to drink it, let alone sell it. FROM: Tyler & Cindy DATE: Wednesday May 31, 2006 -- 12:24:39 pm My wife and I tried Beverly while in Atlanta. By far the worst drink I have ever had. I wanted to drink some drain cleaner to get the bad taste out. I heard other people say such things as: "Now I need a new cup cause this one is contaminated with Beverly" and "hurry and give me something else to drink. I need to wash this taste out of my mouth". My wife and I enjoyed watching the reactions.

When visiting Malta , we tried the most popular bottled soda there, "Kinney". It tastes like straight up orange peel. It was so hot, I drank it anyway.

I tried Beverly at EPCOT - Disney's futuristic "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow" at a pavillian sponsored by Coca-Cola.
People were trying different soft drinks from around the world - Africa, Israel, Japan, Germany, etc - and when they came to Italy's offering "Beverly" they invariably screwed their faces up, puckers, squinted, and maybe made some kind of comment like "Oh my GAWD, What is this stuff?!" (Hey, it's Disney, no one would ever use profaniy ... :P ) I tried the stuff - and yes - it definitely is an acquired taste. Supposedly, it's a bitter grapefruit flavor and meant to be an aperetif. That said, I tried it, found it "different," had some mre, and got used to it. (I think I did it just to be different from everybody else.) It's really not all that bad. Just different. (IMHO - TAB - or any other diet soda with poisonous artificial sweetners all taste worse and are hazardous to your health to boot.) Maybe the folks who think it is bad should try Campari... (then again, it's been years since I had that - it may taste "better" now than I'm an adult.) V

I had Beverly at the New World of Coke in Atlanta. I got used to the flavor quickly and was able to trick other people into getting it by drinking whole cups of it myself. The other people's reaction when they tried it was funny. I don't understand why they didn't like it.

I've been going to the Coca-Cola Museum in Atlanta since I was in the fourth grade. Everytime I go, without fail, I take a sip of the infamous Beverly - just for the experience. Usually, a friend and I will count to three and take a shot of it at the same time. It's sooooo nasty. I'm going to take one of my friend's from New York to the Museum in a month or two and let her try it. (!)

I wanted to get online and see if anybody had ripped on Italy's "Beverly" drink.
Obviously it's not a fan favorite. I got to try the putrid concoction this past weekend while visiting the Coca Cola Museum's "Taste It" experience. Of the dozens of foreign sodas there for your enjoyment, Beverly is the only one I can remember by name because of its distinctive, disgusting flavor. I can't imagine that this soda is popular in Italy.

I love Beverly! Every time I go to Epcot, I make a beeline to the Coke store and fill a small water bottle with it so I have some to sip as I walk around. I wish I could find it here in the States. I do enjoy watching the sour expressions, though on most people's faces when they try it. Most American's like sweet, but then it's because if you look at ingredient labels, there is sugar in every single thing we eat!

I am Italian, born, raised and educated, but I never had Beverly in Italy (I will inquiry though). I had the pleasure to try Beverly during my first visit to the Coca-Cola museum, several years ago, and LOVED IT! I loved it so much that I made a point to return to the museum as often as my schedule permits it!
But you have to understand that bitters are a way of life for Italians. See the most famous aperitif “Campari”, and the specialty vermouth like “Punt & Mes”! And the refreshing drinks like Chinotto! Not to mention the after meal digestive Fernet Branca! Non of these products would appeal to an American, but to a TRUE Italian, they are like the nectar of the Gods! Try it, you’d like it!

I have tried it at Epcot and even the new world of Coca Cola in Atlanta. Yuck!!!
My friend Sabrina played a little joke on me the first time we tried this stuff. Since Beverly is clear (just like water) she filled a water bottle up with Beverly. When we got out of "ice station cool" at Epcot she asked me if I wanted some water to get rid of the taste. What a surprise I got when I took a big chug of Beverly......noooooooo Thanks Sabrina :)

We went to the Coke museum in the ATL recently. My father in-law came to me and said "You have to taste the Beverly...it's awful." Well at that point, my manhood had been called into question, so I had to try it. Oh my God in Heaven...I now know exactly what they make the Beverly drink from. Beverly must be made from the distilled sweat off the crack of the ass from a very large woman named Beverly. This large sweaty, stinky woman must be kept in a sauna while being force fed a combination of garlic, Limburger cheese and saline fluids.
I also know that Jagermeister's first name must be Beverly.

Dont forget that Coca-Cola got its name from Cocaine, which was an original ingredient. Perhaps you got some real "classic" Coke." A little up the page this guys said this. Do some research before you say something stupid like that. Thats not where Coca-Cola gets its name... Coke, even to this day, uses coca leaves in its production. Cocaine has nothing to do with coke. The Coca-Cola Beverage Company is still the only people in the world allowed to export coca leaves from Bolivia. The UN stopped exportation of the leaves in the 1930s.

I too have danced with the dreaded Beverly. It's been years since I was at the World of Coke in Atlanta but I still remember it like it was last night's nightmare. After you drink it you realize there are people in the room watching and laughing at unknowing victims. I watched a group of little boys drink it and seriously, one started crying, another spit it in the trash can, and still another walked in a dazed circle and his knees kept buckling. I was in Italy and looked for this poison but couldn't find it anywhere. I describe it as something that would kill grass and take the paint off a wall.

I am glad to see that this is a real beverage. My husband is convinced that it's not real and that they were filming our horrified expressions as we tasted this drink - sort of a "candid camera" thing.

OMG! My wife and I went to the World of Coke the day after seeing an Eagles Concert. The whole tour was amazing, but the highlight, by far, was the tasting station and watching people try Beverly. I just went up to the station, unknowingly, and tried it just so I could try everything. Man, that was the most vile thing that I have ever tasted. I tried to dupe my wife into trying it, but she chickened out. For the next hour or so, I just sipped on my coke and watched peoples reactions to this drink. One guy said "Oh my God, it tastes like poison". Another kid got duped by his buddy into trying it, and then proceeded to try and fight him. I am drinking a coke even as I am typing this, and just thinking about Beverly is affecting my palate to the point where this coke tastes funny now.
BTW, I will be going back to the world of coke again, and again I will try beverly, only this time my kids will be with me, and I will get them to try it. Hope CPS doesn't get wind of this lol.

I went to the world of coke Las Vegas for the new year with my two daughters and one of their bf's. By far, Beverly is like drinking bug spray and thats the way it came out of my mouth. I had a water chaser and apple coke and the burn and taste was still there.

BEVERLY......is this Italian for crappiest drink ever invented? I first tried it at World of Coke and found it beyond description. Sorta dirty gym sock, rotting cabbage, and a dash of vinegar for an extra kick. I think they use it to clean toilets and sinks in Italy..or maybe not...it probably eats through porcelain.

I was just at wold of coke an yes beverly had to be the most disgusting drink ever and was probly peed out by satan

I haven't tried Beverly since I visited the World of Coca Cola in the mid-90s. Glad to see the Legend of Beverly lives on! Dear God! I don't remember any other drink at those taste-test stations, other than "that disgusting drink from Italy." It's a good thing Italians make such amazing food and wine or I would lose so much respect!

Just a follow up to my posting of 5/29/08. We did finally go back to Atlanta, only this time we did take the kids. I even got my wife to try it. Well lets just say they didn't think Beverly was the best drink ever, but you can see for yourself lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ihaHOUDV3s. We are all talking about going back again. Guess we must be gluttons for punishment.
