So a few nights ago, my wife asked me if I had seen a commercial for KFC's new product: the Chicken Bowl. I hadn't, so I answered truthfully. She then told me about this new product... and I think you need to hear about it. It's served up in a typical plastic bowl, and it has layers of food in it. The bottom layer is mashed potatoes. Not bad so far, right? Right. The next layer is corn. Lots of people like to mix their corn with their mashed potatoes, so this makes sense. On top of that, popcorn chicken. All right... now it's officially a chicken bowl, right? Right! But wait! No! There's more. On top of the chicken? Gravy. At this point, I think most normal adults would think, "That's a heck of a bowl. That's a lot of food, and densely-packed at that!" But KFC didn't stop there, oh no. They topped the whole thing off... with cheese. So, again, that's mashed potatoes, corn, popcorn chicken, gravy, and cheese. In a bowl. Probably $4 or so. I'm really, really surprised at the restraint shown here - they could have gone all the way and deep fried the thing, and served it in a tote bag. Taco Town! Disgusting. Comments

DATE: Monday May 22, 2006 -- 1:57:00 am Disgusting. Fattening. Indulgent. FROM: Leslie DATE: Monday May 22, 2006 -- 12:12:25 pm You know those tables in the fitness magazines that tell you how much exercise you have to do to work off an indulgence? I bet burning off the bowl would be B-R-U-T-A-L! FROM: Rob [E-Mail] DATE: Monday May 22, 2006 -- 6:29:17 pm When I first saw this commercial, I thought it looked nasty. But then I thought about it more and I started to realize that it combines everything I like at KFC. And then it's got cheese on it! So I may just try it some time. At least once. Just for the heart attack. FROM: jk DATE: Monday May 22, 2006 -- 7:26:20 pm Ah, Robert--you beat me to it! I was about to say "heart attack in a bowl"!! FROM: jk DATE: Monday May 22, 2006 -- 8:51:33 pm I've got it! To sell it in Central PA, add a layer of waffles! FROM: Merle [E-Mail] DATE: Tuesday May 23, 2006 -- 3:18:59 pm Oooh, deep fried. Since popcorn chicken already is, that gives a new, special gringo meaning to the term "re-fried". FROM: Cosmo Leen DATE: Sunday May 28, 2006 -- 3:54:08 pm I live in Maryland which a big chicken producer. It is a big source of blue crabs. If you try to sell people a bad grade of crab the boys from Annapolis will show and make you pay for it. Ky Chicken is horrible. Little meat and lots of crap in the crust. Those undocumented aliens make really good chicken. Plenty of meat, juicy, and nothing added except some charcoal. The only time I go into a Ky Chicken is when it has Taco Bell. Eat South American chicken. Even though they do speak Spanish the chicken is great. Bolivian chicken alone is reason to fight the anti undocumented alien laws that they are trying to force on us. FROM: Ryan [E-Mail] DATE: Wednesday May 31, 2006 -- 5:20:40 pm I'll admit that "Layers of Flavor" will probably sell better than "Layers of Shit." FROM: Eek DATE: Wednesday May 31, 2006 -- 5:22:18 pm Regarding the above image, do you think there's a gravy-splash when the chicken and corn hit the top of the bowl? eww. FROM: Sal DATE: Sunday August 20, 2006 -- 5:16:06 pm I had a friend in college who used to make mashed potatoes then would add corn and chicken to it and season with salt and pepper. Students would come from miles around to eat it! There aren't any comments here yet. This Ping is lonely.
