Last week, I had misplaced my MP3 player (I found it on Thursday), but I was annoyed with myself for possibly having lost it. It wasn't super expensive, but it's not the first time I've lost something like that, either.
In college, I misplaced my way-overpriced graphic calculator and never found it. That was a big deal because a.) I was broke and in college and b.) I was taking some math class at the time that required a graphic calculator. I don't think I worried about b.) too much -- I was taking the class pass/fail.
Back in 2000, I was at a horror (read: nerd) convention and left my digital camera on a table. I didn't realize until the next morning and by then it was gone. I'm still convinced that the Italian prog rock band performing there took it. Now, that camera today would only cost $25, but there were a bunch of pictures on that card I was bummed to have lost.
Have you ever lost anything particularly expensive for an extended period of time, or for good?
