Don't tell me I was one of the only Pingers watching the Grammys™©® last night. What'd you think?
I was surprised by the Dixie Chicks' dominance (I maintain that "Crazy" was the song of 2006 - and you will too, in 20 years) for sure, but it's well-deserved. The thing I wish the Grammys™©® would stop doing is having a performer turn around and instantly win something. Come on, the Red Hot Chili Peppers winning for Best Rock Album? Please.
"My Humps" won Best Pop Performance by a Duo/Group with Vocal. Hrm.
The performances were a mixed bag as usual. Dixie Chicks? Good! Justin Timberlake? Surprising! Red Hot Chili Peppers? Snoozers! I was impressed by Mary J. Blige, and thought - honestly - Christina Aguilera was a fine choice to cover James Brown. And then there was the eerie and slow version of "Crazy"... interestful.
The bigger issue is that the Grammys™©® do indeed feel less and less relevant, when they're doing silly things like My Grammy Moment (ie, mini-American Idol) and using lame writers. (Voiceover before a commercial playing over "Crazy": "No, you're not crazy...") Thing needs to be reshuffled and reborn next year, as it does nearly every year.
Oh, and who was that band at the start? Police? Not sure they'll make it with a name like that.
