Pepsi Throwback and Kosher Coke

You know, I’m not really a Pepsi fan. I like Coke, and I often have a Coke and a smile.

But Pepsi might be on to something with Pepsi Throwback, which uses this innovative and interesting sweetener called “sugar” instead of high fructose corn syrup. I’m not quite sure how this “sugar” tastes but I suspect it’s pretty darned good.

In seriousness, it’s a good idea. So good in fact that Coke has been doing it for years with so-called “Kosher Coke”. I was thrilled when our vending machine at work happened to get stocked with Kosher Coke last year; there’s a huge, huge difference in the flavor with real sugar and it’s for the better.

I’d be surprised if the timing wasn’t intentional for Pepsi Throwback since it’s coming out right around Passover. In any case it’s nice to see HCFS take a little timeout for a while.

New Coke came out my senior year in High School, and we of course hated it. I went to Germany shortly thereafter and realized New Coke had not yet reached them, so I drank the old stuff there like beer!

When they introduced Classic Coke and said it was the same, I KNEW they were lying :o). (Back me up here, COD! I think you are my age.) I later found out they had “changed the sweetener” in it, but I didn’t know what high fructose corn syrup was until years later. We were a trusting generation and just wanted to teach the world to sing.

I’d love to find Kosher Coke! Is HFCS not kosher? Very interesting Ping, thank you!!

What is this then?
