Wisdom Teeth

When I had my upper two wisdom teeth taken out, it was no big deal. My dentist did it and I actually thought the whole teeth cracking noise was kind of neat since I was so numb I couldn’t feel anything. In fact, the whole experience was less of an ordeal than getting a cavity filled.

However, I need to get my two lower wisdom teeth taken out, which requires going to an oral surgeon because the jawbone isn’t as soft on the bottom as it is the top. I have the option of local anesthetic, local + nitrous oxide, or being knocked out completely. I’m leaning towards just the local for a few reasons. First, I can handle being awake and the cracking sounds and drills, etc. Plus, getting knocked out means fasting from midnight on, etc. Secondly, the nitrous oxide isn’t covered by my insurance, so the loopy feeling will set me back another $100.

Who here’s had it done? What did you get? How was the experience?

I’m definitely not looking forward to the extended recovery period.
