The ultimate crossword

Kottke pointed out this amazing crossword that went to print the day before the 1996 election. It all starts with the clue for 39 across: “Lead story in tomorrow’s paper, with 43 across.” 39 and 43 formed either “Bobdole elected” or “Clinton elected.” It’s really something to consider that there are seven other hints (down) that each needed to form two different answers in order to spell out “Bobdole” or “Clinton.”

Truly impressive.
