It's hard to pick just one, because Michael's music has changed with the times throughout his career. Even though he is a walking basket case right now, some of his latest offerings ("Butterflies") are just as funky as the classics.

I was 11 when i first heard "Dont Stop" and my body couldnt help moving...I thought nobody could ever make a better song as long as the Earth was moving..."One day in your live" was also in that album, I loved Michael. 1) We're debating whether or not Michael Jackson was more popular in the 90's or in the 80's. Therefore, we don't count his 2001 album, Invincible.

2) The numbers I gave may be slightly older (2003 numbers), but they still made the point. According to both sets of numbers (yours and mine), Michael sold twice as many albums in the 80's than in the 90's, with the numbers tailing off tremendously as the 90's progressed.

3) You don't count both CD's in HIStory when counting sales. It's one CD package.

4) So..not as many Americans bought Michael's 90's albums, but he's still more popular? Hey, falling off more than 50 percent in a decade isn't THAT big a deal, isn't it?

It was a bit over the top, for sure. More than I would usually carry a Ping battle. I got very frustrated with someone who was, clearly, not reading what I was writing and throwing out some insults against people like me and others.

I am a Michael Jackson fan, but my opinion of him, personally, has changed. There is simply too much evidence floating around about Michael and the child molestation charges (see The Smoking Gun's special section for me to ignore it.

No one can ever discredit what Michael Jackson has done as a musician, and someone would be a fool to do so. However, his personal life has shadowed his music career and forever stained his legacy.

I, for one, am very sad that the Michael Jackson I loved as a little boy is no longer here. To me, he is dead.

There is something i dont understand. Why do most people hate michael jackson but love elvis presley. Elvis Presley is seen as this huge God almighty creature, and michael is seen as a disgusting physco freak. If i asked you why you hate michael and why you think hes crazy you would say because he has destroyed himself physically, he (possibly) molested children and he dangled a child over a balcony. But have you all forgotten that elvis did the EXACT same things, so why isnt elvis called crazy or hated as much?

Obviously when they both started out calling them really popular singers was an understatment. they were HUGE!!! I mean elvis has sold over a billion records and michael has the highest selling album of all time worldwide. (note. i said WORLDWIDE, i know its not in the usa).

number 1. ok michael jackson had plastic surgery that destroyed the OUTSIDE of his face. Elvis took drugs and overdosed numerous times, he ate a hell of a lot of food which...well everyone saw the effects of that...he completely destroyed the INSIDES of his body which i would call much worse considering the plastic surgery michael had cant KILL him or mess his insides.

Number 2. Now im not saying michael definetly molested those boys but even if he did why is that any worse then elvis molesting a 14 year old . is it the fact that elvis molested a GIRL that makes it ok? now if thats the case thats discriminating against gays. and sure you can argue that the person (priscilla) elvis molested consented to it but its the law that , consentual or not, you got to jail for having sex with ANYONE under the legal age. just ask the 42 year old woman who CONSENTUALLY had sex with a 12 year old boy and ended up going to jail for it. 6 years later as soon as she got out of jail, she ended up marrying him!! what a waste of 6 years of her life! Now i actually believe that no matter how old someone is if its consensual sex then its alright, but the fact is the law doesnt! and if this poor women had to go to jail then so should have elvis.

number 3. the whole baby dangling incident. that was ONE time we have ever seen michaels bad parenting skills, and even if there are more times can you IMAGINE what elvis was letting or doing to lisa marie when he was alive. i mean when your on drugs all the time your minds not going to be that sane. lisa marie was in sooo many dangerous situations at graceland with just elvis its frightenting. and i have heard some crazy storys that have happened there come out of lisa maries own mouth (even though she thought of them as fond memories).

so although (as hard as it is to believe) i am also an elvis fan as i am a michael fan. it just annoys me that just because elvis is dead he gets away with it and everybody forgets. all i can say is hopefully when michael dies all his "badness" is forgotten and that in the end his GREATNESS shines through.

"Beat it" is powerful, and amazing. Although a lot of his songs are, I think "Beat it" really captures something. If you listen, really listen to the song as if it is the first time, loudly along in your room, you will rediscover it. Notice when we sings right after the drum beat, it gives the whole song this motion. To the guy who said the video is silly and it hasn't stood the test of time, WOW you are wrong. Watch that video again, really watch all the dancing in the music video, I think it is the best choreographed video I have ever seen. The dance sequence goes SO well to the music, and look so perfect.

I knew he was innocent coz;

1) No-one who is a paedophille, declares it on national televsion in an interview..daah! I think they'd do the opposite.
2). The prosecution had no hard evidence, nothing on MJ's computer etc
( am sure the police would have done a "dawn raid, as it was such a serious allegation).
3) The prosecution was "clutching at straws" otherwise they would not have asked for previous allegations to have been brought in to consideration during the trial, ( which is not usual practice) .

The only crime MJ has committed is one of one of complete niavity and innocence, being too trusting. He should realise he cannot experience "normality" by mixing with "normal " ordinary people.

Micheal Jackson is portrayed as a freak etc and has been done so for years.
Undoubtedly he is eccentric in his behaviour due to his unconventional upbringing and experiencinf fame at a very early age.
However, it is often forgotten that he is just a musician ( and a very brilliant one) and not a politician. He does not change the world just spreads an immense amount of joy and pleasure to people all over the world, through his music.
Allso, we the public dont know how the other stars lead their lices, how "normal" are they? Is it normal to have a pet lizard and have to have a personal chef for your lizard as Jim Carey does?
MJ has gone overboard with his surgery but all the stars have surgery and they all deny it.

This is a response to Dave Walls. I stumbled into this site, and was rivited at the commentary you made about Michael Jackson.
It is obvious that Michael Jackson did not sell as many albums in the 90's as he did in the 80's; there is irrefutable prove on that. But you have to admit, that nobody, not even himself, can compete with the numbers he racked up in the 80's. And that has been the problem since that time. Everybody (including Michael to his detriment) has been comparing his latest albums to his Thriller success, which was unprecedented, and in truth will never happen again. If you take Thriller off the equation, his sales compared to his contemporaries or any other artists have been excellent.
Look, I think we agree, as Michael Jackson fans, that he is in fact a musical genius, he has done a great deal for the music business, and has been a great pioneer and very influential and inspirational to many new artists. I love his music period.
His antics sometimes throws me off, but deep inside, I believe he is a good person, just trying to give back. He was acquitted on all charges, even the misdemeanor ones, that the prosecutors and the judge added at the end of the trial. You seem like a reasonable person, and I believe you have a lot of common sense, and if you followed the trial carefully in neutral venues, not in all the cable news channels that were clearly biased against Michael, you would know that there was no way that he was guilty. There was absolutely no prove or no evidence that he did anything wrong; the timeline also did not add up, it did not make sense. I followed this trial meticulously, and read the transcripts, and I am convinced of his innocence. The grand jury was held by the prosecution, Michael Jackson nor his defense was there to present the other side; I don't know if you have heard, but the saying goies "you can indict a ham sandwich" in a grand jury. (BTW, the grand jury transcripts wer illegaly leaked) in order to infect public opinion (obviously their tactics worked with you); I'm just giving you the other side, I know if you were in trouble, you would like people to present both sides and ask them to open their minds and give you the benefit of the doubt. So I ask you to do the same for Michael Jackson. Insults and terrible attacks don't help anybody. I thank you for giving the Michael Jackson fans of the world a venue to give their opinions about Michael; and I do thank you for being a fan!

While I think it may be where the charges against Michael might have been ones that the family of the boy were falsely made up, I also have to say that due to the defense team using testimony of other celebrities claiming that they warned Michael to be leary of the family that it is where I also feel like it also is where Michael felt that due to the past family history of questionable acts that he could get away with molesting this child, and if this family was only out for money, then why didn't they just try to get that from Michael by using threats of making it public. He's not naive, if that were the case, then he should have wised up after the allegations against him the first time and if he was innocent that time, why would anyone in their right mind pay the accusor millions of dollars as a settlement. Although Michael is a where people will target him to extort money unjustly, I also believe that Michael fits the profile of a child predator. As to McCulkin as a witness for the defense - Of course Michael is not going to risk trying things with him, he was another celebrity and not a child who is from a family with questionable fraudulent acts in their backgrounds. Michael is like a "Chicken Hawk," he uses his wealth and celebrity status and focuses on children who are those that he feels their family's creditbility is questionable. He was found not guilty, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't, just that the prosecutors dropped the ball when it came to being able to prove he was guilty and lets face it, the childs family was shown to be very shady and the defense did their job in only proving that there was reasonable doubt. You can't convict someone when reasonable doubt is there.

In response to Laurie's comments on the Michael Jackson trial:

1) First of all, from you assinine comments I have to believe you are not a professional in the pedophilia field. Are you? I'm no expert either, but from what I have read on the condition, pedophiliacs don't pick and chose victims. If they are around children and they have the opportunity they will molest them. They also, pick vulnerable victims, like this kid who had cancer, and groom them for a few months before they strike. Well, Michael Jackson knew this kid at his most vulnerable, TWO YEARS before these allegations started. If he were a pedophile, he would have struck long before then. And like you said Michael Jackson is not stupid, why in the hell would he start molesting this kid when there was a police and child services investigation going on, and the whole world was focused on this?
Also, no child pornography was found, no child pornography sites were found in all his computers. Nothing! The two books that they made you think were horrific were legal art books that were seized in 1993!; and were gifts from fans. All they found were legal adult magazines, which are bought and read by millions of males in this country. He also hired a lawyer Feb 8 because of what happened in 93. He was afraid this family might allege things again. This lawyer (Geragos) conducted surveillance against this family (all legal), and this family was being kept away from Michael during the period these alleged acts took place. There is plenty of testimony from the accuser (who was very upset that he was being ignored by Michael Jackson) and the mother.

3) For Michael Jackson to be stupid enough to start molesting this kid at this time, because he knew that they had a history of this and this could get him off, is ludricous! First, how do you know he knew right away about the history of this family? His lawyers were investigating but who knows when they found out? And to put himself in a position to be arrested and have this incident ruin his career, is absolutely ludicrous! The last thing he would want is another allegation. Michael Jackson is very smart. He wants his popularity back here in the US. more than anything. What you are suggesting is insane and idiotic to say the least.

4) If you followed this case meticulously, which I'm sure you did not, you would realize that all the bogus charges (kidnapping) and the changing stories, inconsistencies, and lies from the entire family was suspicious to say the least. This was a family affair scam. No forensic evidence was found nothing!

5) They went to two civil attorneys (money lawyers) before going to the police. One lawyer (who was the same involved in the settlement in 93) told Larry King (and there is transcripts of this) that he did not want to take this case(Arvizos family) because he suspected the mother was in it just to scam money from Michael Jackson. Moreover, a conviction would have sealed the deal for them. They would have been able to sue Michael for millions!

Next time, think before you start spewing nonsense. If you did not follow this trial (read transripts, follow both sides) you should be very careful what you say. Of course it is a free country, and people like you, and there are millions, unfortunately, will keep saying idiotic nonsense until the cows come home. I cannot control, that, but I can also speak out for the side of the truth. Its people like you that make this country an embarrassment.

This is to Patrice, I agree that a child molester doesn't pick and choose his victims, however, my point was only this, that using Cauly McCulkin to testify that he wasn't ever touched by Michael didn't prove wasn't proof that this kid was molested. I never mentioned anything about the magazines that they used or mentioned any evidence either.

Since you mentioned the characteristics of a pedofile being one that you say I must know nothing about, sorry, but I do, my son was a victim years ago when he was a young boy and Michael does show that he could very well be one. I am sorry, but anyone who is innocent, does not pay out, what was it 20 million or more to the previous allegations before this last case. He very well may have been targeted this last time and he left himself open to be a target. I never mentioned anything about the kidnapping shit, as I really didn't believe all that. As to your comment about whether Michael knew about the family's history, isn't that one the defense used by calling other celebrities who said they were contacted by this family and let Michael know they were leary of this family? It isn't so assinine to also give some thought as to where any pedofile might not see that to be where if the child told on them that their credibility wouldn't be worthy of believing. The biggest issue is the fact that due to Michael's past issues with allegations of molesting a child, and the fact that he settled the issue in civil court, isn't a act of a innocent person. Furthermore, if this family was out to extort money, they still haven't that I have heard of, as of yet filed a civil suit, which they still could do, and could still win, just like it was done on OJ Simpson. A grown man does not have sleep overs in their bed with children, and anyone who has had allegations like he did, is the person who is assinine. The prosecutor didn't have the necessary evidence, so I agree that the transcripts of the trial don't prove beyond a reasonable doubt, they failed at proving it, that is all.

My possible theories to you may be ones that you feel are assinine of me to say, that however, does not make them any less those that are possible and there are many cases of pedofiles as well as criminals who have used a personal history to be to their advantage because of their not being credible as well. His past allegations should have been where of all people where he never should have placed himself ever again to be able to be accused of molesting a child. He may be innocent, but then again his life style of hanging with little boys, sleeping with them, buying them things are all signs of being what is known as a "Chicken Hawk," which is the type of things that my son's pedofiler was doing, so it in my opinion is where your someone who is stupidly naive to believe that Michael has never acted inappropriately, hello, does a innocent person give in to extortion, which is what he did, if he was innocent in 93. alright for all yall haters out thurr...yall can drop your heads in shame because if you dislike this phenomenon then you obviously don't know anything about music. there are many talented bands and solo artists out there that have talent however...no one NO ONE has ever created such a magnificent image, such groundbreaking statistics and incredible moves that all you average joes wouldn't even attempt because your not that coordinated to do so. i hope people can see the true light through michael jackson like i do and can turn into someone that respects his undeniable talent because you know you could never do anything that comes close to mj's calibre....now for the top 5 songs... id have to say (not in order) that wanna be starting something, the way you make me feel, dirty diana, billie jean and rock with you are the best but PYT and human nature are very close with those.
