Paper or Plastic?

A simple, timeless question for you today: paper or plastic?

I tend to go with paper from Trader Joe’s (in part because they are some of the best paper bags one can get – incredibly useful), but oddly, I go with plastic from other stores.

We have a mesh bag that we use as our primary bag. Anything that doesn't fit in the mesh bag: it depends. We use paper for our recycling and plastic for our smaller trash cans, so it depends what we need. Usually plastic bags are easy to come by, so any excess plastic bags go into the plastic bag recycling container outside the supermarket.

I generally prefer paper, though, with all things being equal.

I keep telling myself I'll use the backpack I bought just for this reason..but somehow or another I always manage to leave it at home...plastic at safeway and corner stores...paper from trader joe's, cala, and rainbow general store...I think it's called rainbow food and grocery now but I still call it by it's old name

Plastic. There is nothing like the feeling of success when you can get an entire trunkload of groceries in the house in one trip by carrying 12 plastic bags on each arm.

Plastic, for all of the reasons Chris mentioned above, and the fact that most supermarkets have recycling bins at the front door now, so the next time you go back, dump em off.

I agree about the plastic...it's hard to get a grip on paper bags unless you carry them from the bottom, like a baby.

Ooh ooh! Thought for a ping! Scan your own or go through a line with an actual cashier!!??

You who have Trader Joes are lucky guys :o). I have received gifts from there, and went to their website only to see that I cannot order online.

You guys should use canvas bags - you can buy small or large ones from Trader Joe's, and they are so sturdy! I have a few other canvas bags that I've acquired over the years, and just keep them in my car. Plus, if I have to go to a "regular" grocery store, they take 5 cents of your order for each bag of your own that you bring.
