I've gotta say, they've improved the usability of a lot of every day items over the years, but one item that sucks as much today as it did the day it was invented still exists: plastic wrap. No matter how much care and effort you put into tearing a piece of it off and using it to wrap up food (or whatever), it never works. Never. Even the expensive stuff, Cling Wrap, rarely clings... and when it does, it clings to itself as soon as you tear the piece out of the box. Honestly, when trying to wrap up a bowl, I get better results using wax paper and a rubber band. Of course, aluminum foil is the best alternative to plastic wrap. The big question, though, is how they actually get Cling Wrap to work as advertised on the commercial. I know if I ever tried to seal up a bowl of fruit with plastic wrap and then turned it over, I'd have a lot of fruit on my floor. Comments

DATE: Friday January 31, 2003 -- 12:59:25 am Whatever happened to those plastic wraps that had elastic? They came in different colors, and looked like a hair net for your food. FROM: Chris [E-Mail] DATE: Friday January 31, 2003 -- 8:44:16 am Tupperware is my friend. FROM: Ryan DATE: Friday January 31, 2003 -- 9:17:06 am Dave -- Ah, yes, I forgot about those. I haven't seen an ad for them in ages... FROM: kristy DATE: Friday January 31, 2003 -- 12:40:24 pm you gotta go with the new Reynold's Non-stick foil. It really doesn't stick to lasagna etc. as promised. FROM: The Lizard DATE: Monday February 3, 2003 -- 8:04:17 pm Plastic Wrap can work well if you wet the end that you want to stick. I found this out while washing dishes and putting food away...it sticks better if it's a little wet first! FROM: cling free DATE: Sunday February 16, 2003 -- 8:10:37 pm store your plastic wrap in the freezer (or it might be the refrigerator, i can't remember). anyhow, that keeps the plastic wrap from clinging to itself when you're trying to apply it to a bowl. FROM: Wycked [E-Mail] DATE: Tuesday February 18, 2003 -- 3:17:43 pm I'd say those Saran Quick Covers (the ones with the elastic) look more like condoms than hairnets. FROM: Paul DATE: Friday March 5, 2004 -- 4:10:33 pm I'm trying to figure out what that has to do with plastic wrap. Anyone? FROM: Todd DATE: Saturday March 13, 2004 -- 12:51:52 am Restaurant grade plastic wrap blows the most, everytime oil prices go up the stuff gets thinner and thinner. They keep adding fancy cutters to it and the end result is a tattered box that doesn't support the roll. Towards the end of the roll the stuff runs and it takes 5 minutes to fix. Nobody dislikes this crap more thanI!! FROM: Hallie DATE: Saturday April 10, 2004 -- 12:55:58 pm wow like who has the time to sit around and talk about lettuce anymore. what r u guys bums? i just want to know how plastic wraps work for a school project FROM: Jamie DATE: Tuesday September 14, 2004 -- 1:10:43 pm Plastic wrap (cling wrap) is a polyethylene plastic that is covered in a film, most of the time it is polyisobutylene, this film is of low density and sticks well to itself and metal, along with other materials. This is why cling wrap is sticky to itself and certain things. plastic wrap SUX! go to hell
From: Tyler Durden
Plastic wrap is better than it used to be. Until about a decade ago, we used Polyvinyl Chloride as the main plastic wrap, and soon we realized that a material that turns into chloroform, benzene and dioxin isn't a very good thing to wrap our food in. Now it's polyethylene, of the low density, which is great, no significant risk to your health despite the fact that it lasts an estimated thousand or so years and slowly breaks apart into little, aerosol pieces of the plastic itself, and the phthalates used to make it soft (which are pleasantly carcinogenic) and since the most direct route of entry to you body is the double-celled lining of your lungs I would agree that plastic wrap sucks.
