DVD Special Features

I was reading a short blog post on Hacking Netflix regarding the trend of movie studios to cut out the so-called “Special Features” on rental DVDs. I can imagine this is some sort of cost-cutting measure but it begs the question: are these special features necessary any more?

I admit I haven’t rented a DVD in quite some time, but I only accessed the features for movies I absolutely loved – and then, only once or twice at best. To me they’re nice to have but I can live without them. Given there’s so much extra content on movies and TV shows online, this is doubly true.

Do you watch special features? Would you be all right if they went away?
