Jaguar

The car commercials that have traditionally annoyed me more than any other are Jaguar commercials. More than the pandering to people with too much money, it was the way they pronounced “Jaguar,” with three syllables. It was like they were purposely trying to be obnoxious by adding a third syllable… “Jag-you-are.” Grrr.

But now I’ve noticed that the commercials no longer use the three syllable pronunciation. It’s now pronounced with only two. And it’s funny how much less obnoxious they seem.

That's a good thing, really. Jag-you-are is... pretentious. And really, Jaguars are pretentious enough as is.

Old jags from back in the day when they looked good even if they weren't the most reliable are still cool. But now, they're just really expensive Fords. Is it just me, or is Ford's ownership showing in the new Jags that look like Tauruses with a fancy grille?

My wife's dream car is a Forest Green Jag-you-are with black leather interior and it HAS to have the large cat as the hood ornament.

I hadn't noticed the syllable change, but maybe that explains why some have that large cat and other's don't.

Ciao,

Oh yeah, she knows short of winning a lottery (and thus far our state doesn't have one), that car's a pipedream.

Hey my mom drives a jag, and those are some of the finest cars on the
road. I know because I work on alot of cars. It's always amazing how
many enemies you make when you drive the car.

Mr. Lube:

Is your name in reference to a speedy lube job, as in a quick-ass lube, or is it the more vulgar reference to a quick rear lube, as in quick ass-lube?

that's for you to decide, take it how you want it...

Jag-you-are is the British pronunciation, and since Jags are British cars, they used it.

Ami is correct. Although the British pronunciation of Jaguar is more like jag-you-uh.
