The Daily Ping

Not a toilet in the country has not been affected by the Ping in one way or another.

Search Engines of Olde

There’s nothing like screen shots of web sites from the 1990s to make me start reminiscing. This collection of grabs of search engine sites from the mid-90s through today will do just that. I was, honestly, slightly amazed that all of the major–and most of the minor–players from back in the pre-Google days still have a presence on the web, even if they’re really just a meta-search engine.

One that really hit me was AllTheWeb. This was the last really awesome search engine (that few people knew about) right before Google took over. (And before that, I was a big Hotbot fan. Infoseek and Lycos were crap.)

And, along the same lines, here’s an individual study project I did on search engines back in 1998.

I was a Metacrawler fan back in the day.

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
