Google Goggles, for reals

While the sources are totally unconfirmed and a little suspect, the rumor is out there that Google plans to ship augmented reality eyeglasses.

They’d be a bit bulkier than normal glasses – more like those old school glasses with MP3 players built-in (remember those?) – and I imagine the experience would be something like an augmented reality app on a phone, but over a tiny screen very close to one’s eyes. There’s this curious bit about using it, too:

“The navigation system currently used is a head tilting to scroll and click,” Mr. Weintraub wrote this month. “We are told it is very quick to learn and once the user is adept at navigation, it becomes second nature and almost indistinguishable to outside users.”

I… I… I don’t know about this. Isn’t this a little half-baked? In order to really sing, this needs voice control. I’m also a little freaked out about the likelihood of this being an advertising thingamajig, since it’s coming from Google. Take that away and it seems as if we’re living in the future, ladies and gentlemen.
