Sing-Along Songs

"A little ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, gentlemen?"
"Good call!"

It’s been a number of years since "Bohemian Rhapsody" made a comeback due in no small part to Wayne’s World. A song that hadn’t been popular for years came back full force because of a car sing-along – and even won an award.

I’m sure that Cameron Crowe had at least some similar hopes when he included a sing-along to Elton John’s "Tiny Dancer" in Almost Famous. The circumstances were quite a bit different than in Wayne’s World, but make no mistake: the sing-along in a movie is often an important scene.

Given that a majority of Pingers drive every day, I’m curious as to what your favorite sing-along songs are. -pm

"Cult Of Personality" by Living Color
It may not be much of a sing along song, but I shall never turn the radio dial when it is on.

Oh man, "Bohemian Rhapsody" brings back memories. I was 10 when "Wayne's World" came out and I loved the movie and the song (which I thought was called "Bohemian Rap City.")
I remember it coming on the radio one day and my dad said something like "This song is popular again?" I was like "Dad, it's a new song, it's from 'Wayne's World.'" He said "It can't be new, Freddie Mercury is dead." My response was an exasperated "Who's Freddie Mercury? This is by Queen, dad."
I was significantly more ignorant 10 years ago.
Sorry that doesn't answer your question, but I thought it was kind of a funny, if somewhat pathetic, anecdote.

Okay, don't shoot me, but if it's 3 am on a Saturday night and I've got a carload of people, it's always WONDERWALL by Oasis.

I try to sing louder than the groans I get from pretty much everyone in the car.

Whenever I'm in the car with friends, we end up singing Harvey Danger's "Flagpole Sitta", even if it doesn't come on the radio.

The Misfits are a good sing-along band, too. Nothing beats belting out "I got somethin' to say/I killed a baby today (or "I raped your mother today")" for those unfortunate enough to not have heard "Last Caress" before.

I like singing along to my own songs. It's a lot easier to remember the lyrics.

Ryan: every once in a while I'll get one of my old songs stuck in my head. It's excruciating. That's why I stopped writing. Bless you for writing well enough to sing aloud. Or at least thinking you can.

I wrote a song once called "Someone is Telling Me the Gross Details of Their Sex Life and I REALLY Don't Want to Hear It".

Cat -- I would say "thinking I can" is definitely what I fall under. :)

Robert -- Hm. Now I'm trying to guess who you're talking about!

Ryan--I could be talking about any number of people I know. The most recent experience was with someone many of us know, though I shan't say if s/he is a Pinger because that might give it away.

Your thought of the day: Many kids today won't know what Wayne's World is, much less know who Queen is.
