Fun with Etymology

I enjoy words. But sometimes I scratch my head and wonder where some of the words and phrases we use nowaday, came from.

Problem solved. Word for Word is a site entirely devoted to word and phrase origins. The front page is sparse, but there’s some good information inside.

Also of note is Nautical Origins of Common Expressions, and if you’re feeling game, Etymologic! – a game about word origins. -pm
