Making Tax Time More Confusing

Tear-off Tax Envelope

The above envelope looks like a normal tax return document, right? With those annoying “tear off the sides first” instructions. But, what you may not be able to see at this resolution is the way the numbers are placed on the envelope. The instructions read like this:

(along the top)
1. Remove side stubs first, then fold, crease and tear off this stub at this perf.

(along the sides)
2. Fold, crease and tear off stub at perfs.

So, let me get this straight… instruction #1 is: “go to instruction #2, and then come back to this instruction.”

And they wonder why I’m looney.

Also, shouldn't you tear off the top part first in this case? It's the one where the perforation goes all the way across, to each edge.

I would have been too busy ripping it open with my teeth to notice those silly instructions.

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
