Wrong Number Etiquette

When you dial a wrong number, Pingers, what do you do? I suspect it’s something a little like this:

Hello?
Oh, I’m sorry, I must’ve dialed the wrong number.

Seems simple enough. But I’ve found lately that people dialing wrong numbers have gotten rather snippy – as have people fielding them. A few weeks ago I received a wrong number call and the fellow asked me thrice if he called my number. Each time I confirmed. Each time he paused, and then asked again. He never apologized.

I can tolerate the three-times asking. But no apology? That’s just rude, man. Equally rude? The hang-up in response to a wrong number. Go on, apologize!
