Internal Alarm

I’ve written before about alarm clocks and snoozing, but here’s a question: if your alarm clock isn’t set and you go to bed at a “normal” time, what time does your “internal alarm” wake you up first? Not necessarily to wake up for good, but the first time your eyes open and you look at the clock…

Today I woke up at about 7:30, even after having gotten to bed late. I knew that I had an alarm set for 7:45, but my body woke me up before that, probably because during the workweek, I usually have alarms going off by 7:20 or so.

The body’s an amazing thing… and I haven’t had to replace my batteries yet.

I was up just before 7 this morning, which is the time I get up during the week. Thankfully, I was able to sleep in for another two hours.

7 seems to be my internal alarm time, weekend or not.

It depends. If I'm REALLY tired, my body won't get me up at all. If I don't want to get up, though, my body usually gets me up 15 minutes before my alarm's supposed to go off. :P Though there have been many times lately that it's gotten me up a couple hours before instead. I think my internal clock needs resetting.

My body is a little bit more unusual. From childhood to now, I *always* wake up just as someone is coming into the room to wake me up. i could be sleeping for 10 minutes, or 10 hours, but if my girlfriend comes in to take a nap next to me, I'll stay asleep. But EVERY time she comes in to wake me up, I'm awake 1 or 2 minutes earlier. Freaky.

I usually set an alarm if I need to get up, but my body tends to make me wake up about 5 minutes before it ever goes off.

The clock is typically set for 645 AM, most days I will wake up at 644 AM and turn off the alarm before it even rings.
