Best Five Monkees Songs

“The Monkees weren’t about music, Marge. They were about rebellion, about political and social upheaval!”

That said, my all-time five favorite Monkees songs are as follows.

  1. “Randy Scouse Git”
  2. “Pleasant Valley Sunday”
  3. “Goin’ Down”

Top 5 changes over the years, but Daily Nightly has been #1 for many years:

1. Daily Nightly
2. Sometime in the Morning
3. Shades of Gray
4. You Just May Be the One
5. Insert any Monkees song here…

Shorty Blackwell and D.W. washburn are awesome songs but I don’t think people would take me seriously if I put them in my top 5. No disrespect to the pop classics Last Train, I’m a Believer, valleri, Daydream Believer, etc, but I know the Monkess better than that. The songs behind the hits are outstanding.

3. Words (Can’t believe noone has mentioned “Words”)
2. Daydream Believer
1. I’m a Believer

Honorable Mentions: Papa Gene’s Blues, Steppin Stone, Pleasant Valley Sunday, Tapioca Tundra, Last train to Clarksville, and Zor and Zam.

I agree that Mike- and Mickey-sung songs are generally the best, but its hard not to include I’m a Believer and Valerie on the top list.
