Best Five Monkees Songs

“The Monkees weren’t about music, Marge. They were about rebellion, about political and social upheaval!”
– Dr. Zweig, to Marge Simpson [this episode]

That said, my all-time five favorite Monkees songs are as follows.

  1. “Randy Scouse Git”
  2. “Pleasant Valley Sunday”
  3. “Goin’ Down”
  4. “Porpoise Song”
  5. “Listen to the Band”

She used to bring me my newspaper
'Cause she knew where it was at.
She used to keep me so contented.
But I can teach a dog to do that.
I'm gonna buy me a dog,
'Cause I need a friend now
I'm gonna buy me a dog,
My girl, my girl, don't love me no how.

Hee. %I loves me some Monkees.%

The best Monkees song is by far the pseudo-garage rock hit "Valleri". Just listen to those wailing trumpets. Second goes to the greatest pop song ever recorded "I'm a Believer". Thanks for listening.

daydream believer.. last train to clarksville respectively

Top 5 changes over the years, but Daily Nightly has been #1 for many years:

1. Daily Nightly
2. Sometime in the Morning
3. Shades of Gray
4. You Just May Be the One
5. Insert any Monkees song here…

Shorty Blackwell and D.W. washburn are awesome songs but I don’t think people would take me seriously if I put them in my top 5. No disrespect to the pop classics Last Train, I’m a Believer, valleri, Daydream Believer, etc, but I know the Monkess better than that. The songs behind the hits are outstanding.

3. Words (Can’t believe noone has mentioned “Words”)
2. Daydream Believer
