Family Feud Revisited

A while back, Ryan asked us about our favorite Family Feud host. A noble question, to be sure, but one that couldn’t possibly tell the future. Nowadays, Family Feud features Richard Karn – TV’s “Al” – as its host.

I don’t know what it is, exactly, but something about Richard Karn really creeps me out. I guess its his stage presence, or perhaps that beard. In any event, he makes me feel odd watching the show. And not in the same way Ray Combs did, either.

Therefore, I suggest that we simply create a Richard Dawson robot, and have it host the show. There’s no point in having anyone but the Dawsonbot hosting this classic game show. And let’s bring back the old set, too. None of this high-tech gibberish. Except for the robot.

If you say “Richard Karn” another four times, he’ll magically appear by your side!

I totally agree with olivia and sara they said it all i had no issue with any of the hosts not even anderson but this new guy where’s the bucket?

first saw him on a soap good there, good on seinfeld, good on dancing with the stars, he is handsome, but not good on feud he is trying too hard to be funny and funny he is not on feud. who came up with the audience in the round blocked by scenery and not show the scoreboard? dumbdeedumbdumb!

well i won’t being worrying about it because it is now one less audience.

I Thinks that there IS an issue with the host.

I like Richard Karn, but when they replaced him with John O’Hurley, that’s when I wanted to send angry letters to NBC for ruining the daytime show.

Richard Karn is the bomb, he flavers out the segment ending, he expresses the doubling and tripling points with energy like “I’ll TRIPLE THE POINTS!” and the audience rowrs. Nice look too, and he’d make a great next host of The Price Is Right when Bob retires next summer (though I also may like it when Todd Newton becomes the next host”.

But what did NBC do to the Family Feud back last September? They ruined the setting, they took out Richard Karn (The modern Richard Dawson) and replaced it with John O’Hurley, and they took out the fun.

John O’Hurley sucks so much, he’s like, “heeereWeeeGoooo, TooopFooooourAnnswersOnnnTheeeBoooard” well, speaks like an ametur, or something, he’s just not a great host at all!

And I got one thing to say about the new Family Feud: The Setup is out of wack, all the fun is out, and the new host not only sucks, he’s disgusting.

And One last thing to say. I think that NBC has some choices they need to make in order to save the Family Feud’s Future: Either change the setup now, put Richard Karn back on the show, or just cancel the show. Because now, I just want to kill the time and put in a Star Trek episode DVD. Maybe I will tape the Family Feud Show off of Game Show Network and play that tape. Oh, how could they take such a great host and a great setting and trash it up? I hope the ratings do show the big mistake that he makes.

Now, I am urging everyone to email Richard Karn demanding him to return to the feud, and even tell them the slumping ratings. You know, we need him if the show were to continue.

Nobody, but nobody can produce a good new game show anymore. When they attempt to “revive” a classic game show these days it, too, is a disgrace. Another unfortunate aspect is that great game show hosts are an endangered species. What’s out there today?: Richard Karn, John O’Hurley, Billy Bush, Todd Newton, etc., It’s PATHETIC!! My God, when I think back to REAL talent the names that come to mind are: Bill Cullen, Jack Barry, Gary Moore, Monty Hall, Wink Martindale, Tom Kennedy, Jack Narz, Bob Barker, Jim Perry, Bob Eubanks, Jim Lange, Geoff Edwards, Bud Collier, Dick Clark, Jack Clark, Gene Rayburn, Allen Ludden, Richard Dawson, Bert Convy, John Daly and many more………. Some are still with us, as others have passed on leaving a cherished legacy.

There are only four, yes four great game shows hosts left that are still hosting game shows: Bob Barker, Alex Trebek, Pat Sajak and Chuck Wollery.

It’s really sad that Bob Barker is retiring from The Price is Right. To make things even worse CBS is encouraging twirpy (Saved by the Bell) Mario Lopez to be Bob’s successor on the show. Hey CBS!!! Do you really want to kill off The Price is Right?!?!!! I know It’s reallllllllly hard to find a respectable replacement for Bob, but Mario Lopez? What the hell are they thinking??????!!!! No matter who they get the Price is Right will never, ever be the same without Bob. The end of an era.

I grew up during the *Ray Combs* era of Family Feud. As far as I could tell [back then], that was “vintage” Feud for me. I wasn’t aware of *Richard Dawson’s* existence until Wikipedia was invented, to be perfectly frank.

As for *John O’Hurley* , I genuinely love the guy. Yeah, that’s right, I said it. Perhaps everyone else’s perspective of him is “tainted” from being familiar with O’Hurley’s previous work. Can’t say I have that problem. Prior to Feud I only knew him vaguely — not from Seinfeld (which I never watched) or from soap operas (which I HATE) — but as some dude from Dancing with the Stars (which I also don’t watch).

I’m also sure it’s a generational thing, as some people grew up with the original Feud whereas I obviously didn’t. Any host following Dawson’s run is going to be compared to the original. By sheer “accident of birth”, so to speak, I’m not burdened with that particular “bias”.
