Honest Abe Would Be Proud

29 of 30 lost $100 bills returned to owner

Here’s one of those amazing human interest stories that just might renew your faith in humanity: a woman is shopping and she drops 30 $100 bills (who carries $3000 in cash, I don’t know, but…), the wind catches hold, and the money starts blowing all over the place. A few days later, 29 of the 30 bills had been returned to her. One more day and the final bill was returned.

While this smacks of a socialogical study, $3000 would be a bit much to “lose” on a small science experiment. So, let’s just chalk it up to an awful lot of honest people living in Milwaukee.

I am from Wisconsin, Milwaukee, to be exact. I don't know this person, but I know Greendale (a suburb of Milw), and I am totally not surprised at that behavior
...Midwesterners are very sweet. :)

I wonder why she was carrying $3,000? If I was carrying that amount of money I would be heading for the car dealership to put a down payment on a car.

Did they check to make sure none of the returned bills were counterfeit? That would be a neat trick.

In Chicago... you could bet that $ would not be returned. I don't care if it was Berwyn, Cicero, Downers Grove... well maybe Evanston, Skokie, or Oakbrook but that's questionable even at that. I think that this type of gesture is really hinged a lot around what community or type of area you happen to live in. Upper-middle or Upper class it's a possibility... lower class you can all but forget it. Like the old saying... "Possession is 7/10ths of the law.", it's a "Finder's-keepers" scenario to a good % of the population.

I have to admit, for a city... Milwaukee has a very cool atmosphere amongst the people. Might be all the Miller products contributing to this... ;) Might just be Wisconsin as a whole though, as most everyone up there seems fairly friendly. The further north you get, the friendlier it seems to become. Weird because with all of the cold weather, you'd figure they'd all get grumpier. LoL I know it's bad enough here weather-wise, if I was up by my cousin's in Arkdale; I'd probably be more ornery than I already am. LoL

One exception I can think of...

I had to deal with a %&^* up by Hales Corners working at the Mobil. It was 20 minutes 'til posted closing time on the door. I stopped to gas up and the lady, in a hurry... stated aptly that she was closing the station. She ran my dad out of the store while he was shopping, and forced me to pre-pay... to which pre-paying had the pump tick off over-full with about $1-2 change coming my way, and the door locked with the snotty %^&* inside. I probably should've beat on the door but I was already too ticked about the situation. Probably should've called up the 1-800 # and lodged a complaint too but... I just let it slide. Didn't figure I'd be venturing back up there too much longer anyhow as the racetrack I was attending was closing later on that season after 48 years of operation. The next time I did go back, I stopped further up the road at another station. I don't know why I didn't then anyhow... as I all but despise pre-pay.

Very cool and heartwarming story though Ryan... I'd just wager to say if you have $3k though, I'd hang onto it for dear life. LoL Don't expect this to ever be the norm, but it's definitely nice to see some people with other's people's best interests at heart. Very refreshing.
