What does your DVD player say to you?

Developers of DVD players must have a good time deciding on what their units will say when powered on or off. For instance, one of our DVD players greets you with a wonderous, “Welcome to DVD World!” when you turn it on. When you turn it off, it’s slightly less wonderous, with just a “Bye.” Our other DVD player welcomes you with “Welcome to Toshiba DVD” and says “Goodbye” when powered down.

My car stereo does a similar thing where it greets you with “Hello” but shuts down with the friendly, “See you.”

Now you go check… how does your DVD player say hi to you?

Alas, mine merely says P-ON and P-OFF. I guess it doesn't like me much.

It says "Hello," it says "Goodbye." I don't know why I say "Goodbye" I say "hello."

We use our PS2 as our DVD player, so it doesn't really greet us. We used to have this super cheap Magnavox DVD player that had a small LED that showed "P-ON" and "P-OFF", but it also had an LED lettering of "Load", which was pretty poorly rendered. In fact, one of my roommates thought, at first glance, it said "todd". So, we decided to call that DVD player Todd. It needed a name as it was the most finnicky DVD player ever. It would often freeze up in the midst of a movie, eject the disc, then turn itself off. Todd was very tempramental. We were not sad to see him go when we got the PS2.

Mine doesn't even have a display on it. It's one of the $50 specials I got at Wal Mart about 2 years ago. All in all, though, it works really well. Can't compain.
