Captain Kangaroo

I was sad to see that Captain Kangaroo died yesterday.

As I was growing up, Captain Kangaroo was a big part of my weekend mornings. His shows were entertaining and really, really good for kids without being violent, offensive, or brainless (as many of today’s are.) In fact a quote in the article shows how much the Captain, Bob Keeshan, disliked the current state of children’s programming.

The Captain and Mr. Green Jeans will be sorely missed, much like Mr. Rogers.

Mr. Wizard, Mister Rogers, and now Captain Kangaroo. An era in childrens television is over.

God bless, Bob.

I totally agree that this is a great loss for children as well as parents. I watched the Capt'n and Mr. Green Jeans every Saturday morning when I was growing up. It was such a hearty, informative show with so much character. I echo Dave's sentiments with - -

Good Bless, Bob

I assume you are referring to Bob Keeshan. They tried to redo the show with a new captain but it wasn't up to the same quality. By the way, Bob Keeshan also played Clarabell on the Howdy Doody show in the fifties. Mr. Keeshan will be missed.

I have a 45 of the infamous "I'm a train, I'm a chick-a-train" song. It's called "I'm a Train", and it's sung by Albert Hammond, the man who gave us "It Never Rains in Southern California". I found this a few years ago in a thrift store.

I remember in the last year of the show, 1984-85, they started playing music videos, such as Weird Al's "Oh Ricky", and for gosh sake, "Safety Dance"!

What is this then?
