C2 and Pepsi Edge

Even though I talked about how much I hate the overabundance of low-carb food and drink, there are two products that deserve special mention: Coke’s new C2 and Pepsi Edge.

I tried both of them at the supermarket last weekend, and Target is promoting a tasting in its stores this weekend. For reference, I’m not a fan of Diet Coke or regular Pepsi, but do like Diet Pepsi and regular Coke (not together.) Got it? Good.

The first I tried was C2. The result is pretty much what you’d expect: a combination of Diet Coke and regular Coke, with a bit of a chemical (artificial sweetener) taste and aftertaste. To me it seemed pretty pointless, and the fact that Coke is selling these in 8-packs and 18-packs is also pretty pointless. Plus, there’s a premium over regular Coke or Diet Coke. Here’s a tip: buy some Coke and some Diet Coke, and mix 50/50.

Pepsi Edge, which really needs to be called Pepsi Edge EXTREME!!!, had a similar composition but Pepsi is already a sweet cola. This tasted quite sugary, and didn’t have as much of the artificial sweetener taste of C2: Electric Bugaloo. Was it good? Not really. It tasted like a generic soda that wasn’t quite Pepsi or Diet Pepsi.

The bottom line is that if you’re thinking of trying a low-carb soda, drink water.

Tried both over the weekend:

Coke C2: Eh. Diet Coke and Classic Coke are two things that should never be mixed together. The taste did absolutely nothing for me. One and done with C2.

Pepsi Edge: I kinda new what I was gonna hit here, because I had drank the stuff in 1995, when it was being tested as Pepsi XL. I happened to be in the Bahamas at the time, and it was the only soda available.

Still, the taste came back to me right away. Close to real Pepsi, but a little less sweet and sugary. For me, being a Diet Pepsi drinker, that combo works for me.

I don't think either of the colas will last, let alone make me change my drinking habits, but if I had to choose one, I'd go with Pepsi Edge. It's drinkable. :)

ahh.... C2-judgement day. I was kinda dissapointed when i tried it. heck judging just from the taste i'd think they just re-packaged TAB cola only added a worse aftertase and about 5 diffrent artificial sweetners. dont know why.... the pepsi edge seems to get away with just one artificial sweetner....

I'm not going to try either of these witch's potions (C2? Pepsi Edge? YUCK!!) just to make sure I don't like them... I have no clue as to how they slipped by quality control just like Code Red, Live Wire, DNL (with a blatantly illegal parody of the 7up logo, no less!), Red Fusion, Vanilla Coke, Pepsi Vanilla and other such yucchy poison.

What is this then?
