Horror Movie Halloween Tally

Halloween is a week from tomorrow, so I thought it might be a good idea to check in and make sure that everybody’s doing their job and watching horror movies throughout the month of October. Which ones have you watched so far?

I’ve been a terrible slacker thusfar. I’ve only watched Shaun of the Dead, A Nightmare On Elm Street, and one other that escapes me. I hope the next week will be a bit more productive, however, and I recently started Night of the Creeps, a goofy 80’s movie about giant slugs.

The only one I've watched is Return of the Seavers.

Shaun of the Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street 1-4, Dawn of the Dead, and if you can count it, 28 Days Later.

Personally, I actually don't count 28 Days...The Halloween special It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! is much scarier than 28 Days...

I've been good!

So far:

The Amityville Horror
Audrey Rose
Ghost Story
Nightmare Before Christmas
Addams Family Values (does that count?)
Both versions of The Haunting

It's a pity I don't like gore, as that's a lot easier to find. But I have a pretty good collection of spooky stuff, and will get through more before the Big Day.

Needless to say, I'm driving the poor Spousal Unit nuts. What a good guy he is to put up with me this time of year.

I've not watched many this month, but I think I get off the hook because I watch horror hardcore during the rest of the year.

Well...if you want, you can add "The Grudge" with Sarah Michelle Gellar, but only if you consider a "scary movie" to mean..."It's scary that a movie this bad could get financing!"

I wasted money on "The Grudge" as well. How many times can you play peek a boo!? A laugh track instead of the scary violins would have been more appropriate.

I also rented the classic (1931) "Frankenstein," and also "Rosemary's Baby." Both were good--first time I had seen either.

Surprised you didn't dig 28 Days Later, Dave (unless you're really talking about the drunken Sandra Bullock vehicle 28 Days). I thought it was a damn fine zombie flick.

Me three on The Grudge. Gah. It didn't need a laugh track, because the audience supplied one most of the way through. What a cliche-ridden piece of crap.

Ryan --

I didn't mean 28 Days (although I hated that movie too...a little too close to home). To me, 28 Days Later was less about the zombies, more about survival. The beginning was very promising, but I just didn't get scared enough. Maybe it was because I was off the high of watching Dawn of the Dead again, I dunno. (I just saw 28DL recently).

For me, a zombie movie has to have zombies in it for more than just a few brief scenes. Okay..the scene in the church did scare the crap outta me, but seriously, I don't consider 28 Days Later to be a zombie movie. The zombie are just characters with non speaking roles.

So I do have to agree with the 28DL. It did suck. I didn’t get scared at all in the movie. Zombie movies are suppose to have, well just that, zombies. Where were they? The movie just made me feel…I dunno, sad that I wasted money to go see it, I guess.
Can anyone suggest REALLY GOOD SCARY movies, or have I seen them all?

What is this then?
