Bands Named After Songs

Yesterday at 5:30am I woke up with the greatest idea for a Ping. I wrote it down so I wouldn’t forget it. It was gold.

Last night I took a look at what I wrote because I had totally forgotten my brilliant idea. What I had written was: “Bands named after songs.” I believe I had also thought of an example, but I didn’t write that down.

Now here I am, stuck with this great idea, but no ready-made list to share. So I had to do a little searching. Here are some that I came up with (who the original song was by is in parenthases):

Do you have any to add?

Radiohead was a song on the old Talking Heads album "True Stories"..

That's the only one I can thinking of without doing research and claiming it as my own intelligence.

This Ping separates the geeks from the nerds. Good job, Ryan.

I guess I'm not even a nerd. The only one I could think of is covered already (Godsmack).

Don't feel bad, Joseph, I couldn't think of *any* this morning and had too look all of those up. Props to Dave and Cate for representing some real knowledge.

I cheated with Google.

DEACON BLUE - took their name from a song of the same name by STEELY DAN.

JUDAS PRIEST - originally a mild curse said to avoid saying "Jesus Christ" - also from the Bob Dylan song "The ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest".

URGE OVERKILL - The name of a Parliaments' funk song.

LUZIFER SAM - This German "gothic groove dark metal wave" band was inspired by the song "Lucifer Sam" on the classic early PINK FLOYD album "The Piper At The Gates of Dawn".

McCOYS - Named after the VENTURES song McCOY

Cate, great job! I really liked Shakespeare's Sister.

This requires more brain power than I currently have.

What is this then?
