Google SMS is Awesome

Text messaging bores me. It doesn’t do anything for me, really – I understand why people like it, but I don’t have much of a use for it.

At least… that’s what I used to think. The coolness that is Google SMS changed all that.

Basically, you send a message to Google (46645) and it returns results. That’s it. But just like the real Google the possibilities are great (and mostly on that demo page.) Looking for pizza in a ZIP code? Send it “pizza 90210” and it comes back with results. Want to know what movies are playing? “little miss sunshine 60201” will do it. Driving directions, calculations… it’s all there.

Very nifty feature for sure, and way handier than using my phone’s mediocre web browser. Could this be SMS’s killer app?

I use it all the time, mainly for phone book type queries and occasionally the reverse phone number lookup–when someone calls me and doesn’t leave a message and I don’t recognize the number. I love this feature!

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
