Studio 60

(Yet more downtime yesterday. Sorry. We’re still trying to figure out what the problem is.)

Even though I said I wasn’t psyched about the new TV season, I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised by Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip. It has quite a lineup of actors including a surprisingly un-annoying Matthew Perry and a very subdued Amanda Peet. Even though its frenetic pacing was a little distracting at first, it makes sense for the theme of the show. In Studio 60, a pair of writers that had been fired from a SNL-type live sketch comedy show are re-hired after a top dog at the show steps in front of the camera on live TV and declares how awful the show has gotten. The pair work through a number of personal issues as well as all the issues that go into making edgy live television. I dig it.

The first two episodes were really engaging and I’m looking forward to seeing where they go with this one.

Indeedy, this is good stuff.

I was equally surprised by Matthew Perry; the kid’s got a career on his hands. Bradley Whitford still is Josh Lyman to me, but that’s starting to fade away.

Let’s hope the show makes it more than a year or two.

I’m still unsold on the show. Matthew Perry is a hoot, but the rest of the show still needs time to develop. I’m not giving up on it, but I fear it’s a little too smart for the normal viewer.

I’m intrigued, but I’m not holding my breath for this to last. After all, is NBC really gonna let 2 shows about SNL-type shows (Studio 60 and Tina Fey’s 30 Rock) last at the same time? One of them’s gotta fail.

I’m really enjoying the show and I think most of the cast is great. Not totally into Amanda Peet yet, though. I’ve never seen her in anything else, but she just comes across as bland to me for some reason. Otherwise, though, it’s a great show.

She was very good in Identity.

Amanda Peet was also good in The Whole Nine Yards, and I’m not talking about her acting ability.

Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more.

What is this then?
