Work from home

Just a quick poll: how many of you work from home, even occasionally? For the past few months, I’ve worked from home once a week and I’ve loved it. I’ve been more productive, in a better mood, and being able to lunch with your wife, kid, and dog beats eating a sandwich in your office any day.

Every day. I can’t imagine ever going back to a full time office environment.

God, what’s that like? I’ve been screaming for telecommuting one day a week for years now. I can sneak in a “working from home today” about once every other month. My boss doesn’t care, but the upper management won’t allow it so I can’t do it very often.

I have a pretty comfy position as a traffic reporter..working from home. I use Skype to call about 10-15 different radio stations with reports, which I get from monitoring police and fire scanner, as well as the DelDot’s traffic cameras (When they work).

I think of it as a reward, working from home, considering I drove approx 250,000 miles in a little over 3 years of doing traffic in a mobile unit. Now, I wake up, fire up the laptop and go to work.

BTW, Skype? Next to Tivo, greatest invention EVAR.

I only manage it a few days a year. When I do, though, I am amazed by the lack of distractions from coworkers making speakerphone calls or wandering over to “take a break”. But since I live under two miles from work, and other people are commuting an hour to get there, they are not very sympathetic towards my wish to work from home more often.

I’m very lucky and get to work from home every day. At first I thought I might miss the social interaction at an office, but I love working at home. Now I (like COD) can’t imagine working in a regular office environment again. Hopefully I’ll never have to.

Of course, the one thing I don’t like about working from home is that other people sometimes assume I don’t actually work all that much. In my job, pretty much every moment is devoted to a task. Luckily, the flip side of that is that when my shift is over my work life doesn’t encroach on my home life.

What is this then?
