20 Minutes Fast

I’ve written often on the Ping about my weird alarm clock habits, like setting all my clocks ahead by different amounts and my OCD habit of setting my alarms to only prime numbers, so I figured I’d share the latest information on this topic.

While I used to set my clocks at varying times ahead and had alarms in different parts of the room going off at different intervals, I’ve really simplified things in recent months. Now, I use a single alarm clock and all of the clocks in the room are set at the same: 20 minutes fast. Why 20?

It took a long time, but I realized that 20 minutes is almost always the amount of time it takes me to get out of bed, shower, get dressed, and get downstairs to feed the dog. Thus, when I’m laying in bed thinking, “Do I have to get up yet?” all I have to do is look at the clock and it will tell me what time I’ll be downstairs eating breakfast by. No crazy sleep math required.

You can still call me weird, but at least I’m weird with a purpose. And a vengeance.

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
