Inside UFO 54-40

Just a few weeks ago Ryan wrote about the Choose Your Own Adventure conspiracy which got me thinking about these great books. That lead, of course, to a MetaFilter discussion about a CYOA book featuring an ending you couldn’t technically reach: Edward Packard’s Inside UFO 54-40. I remember it was a weird one and the Wikipedia entry spills the goods:

Inside UFO 54-40 is notable for being the only Choose Your Own Adventure book to possess a plotline that cannot be reached by making a choice. This plotlines consists of pages 101 to 104 and describes the protagonist visiting the utopian planet “Ultima”.

How fantastic is that? Between this and Hyperspace, Packard was definitely my favorite CYOA author.
