Dum Dums and Richard Dawson

I was holding a handful of Dum Dums today, grouping a bunch together with all of the stems pointing down. Then, I had a flashback to Family Feud and Richard Dawson and the lollipop (Tootsie Roll pops?) tree. If a person picked a lollipop with a black stripe on the base, they won $500 or something. From what I remember, even though the money tree was out the last few seasons, it wasn’t necessarily a guarantee that a team would pick from it every episode. Usually, Dawson let a team that had a child in the last position pick…or a hot girl he REALLY wanted..

Still, it was one of those small things that kinda gave the show a personal touch..unnecessary, sure. Yet, game shows rarely make contestants feel that comfortable.
