Today’s realization: Jerry Springer

Do you realize that The Jerry Springer Show has been on the air for 17 years? Raise your hand if you find that amazing. No one remembers Richard Bey anymore and even Jenny Jones is long gone from people’s memories, but Springer maintains, with a TV show that’s old enough to go to college at this point (though I doubt it ever graduated middle school).

The first few years, Springer hosted a relatively normal talk show. I first found out about Progeria from a Springer show in 1995 or 1996. But since 1997, it’s been a daily televised boxing match that garnered such popularity that even the show’s security guard got his own show.

Let’s all take a moment and throw up the S sign for Jerry! Jerry! because even if you’re like 99% of the reasonable population that finds his show a scripted piece of garbage, it’s prettty impressive that it’s been able to run with pretty much the exact same format for nearly two decades.
