Let’s hear about your poll experiences yesterday. Long waits? No waits? Any lunatics in line?
We had a guy who gave a history lesson on McDonald’s in Moscow while wearing a “McLenin’s” t-shirt (Lenin’s head over the McD’s logo; back: “The party’s over.”). I didn’t realize McDonald’s food distributor needed an armed convoy to protect them on the way to the restaurant since it was the only steady supply of food coming into Moscow. Interesting.

Wow, the McDonald’s factoid *is* interesting.
There was really no one in line when I went, and I learned to use a new form and then fed it into what looked like a shredder. (I wanted to ask if it was indeed a shredder but didn’t think the woman running it would laugh.)
No sticker, no coffee.

no wait, no food, a neighbor was working there, and then walking to work afterward I met one of the attorney general candidates and got a sticker from someone in her entourage.
The poll-results experience is WAY more crappier. It’s disgusting the way WI voters went on the death penalty referendum, and sad the way they went on the marriage one.
sigh.

I always vote at 10 AM, and it never takes me more than 5 minutes. Even the contentious Bush – Kerry election didn’t cause a 10 AM backup at my polling place.
It took an hour yesterday. The line snaked around the school gymnasium. High turnout is certainly a factor, but I think the bigger factor is the touch screen voting system. In the past we had a dozen or so old school fill-in-the-bubble ballot stations. Today we had 5 touch screen stations. They seem to be working fine, however the minute people take to familiarize themselves with something new adds up when 150 people are in line. Also, some senior citizens needed a lot of help with the touch screens.

Short line . . . but ample opportunity for me to tell a few people I would campaign and vote for Sen. Hillary Clinton if she ran for president in ’08.
Oddly a few people distanced themselves from me as though I were carrying the plague, or escaped from the State Mental Institution. After everything I have seen tossed at the American voters, I’ll go with a change and I think Hillary is it!
I like what’s his name, too. You know, the guy she is married to . . .

Absentee ballot. No wait, no lines. Sure, it may not be counted, but in this land of chads and Diebold machines, there is no safe way to make sure your vote is counted anyway.
Besides, work gives us two hours off to “go vote”. I would rather spend that time at home than standing in line. Even one hour is worth the two stamps.
