The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien

I will happily admit that I’m not a fan of Jay Leno. Pretty much at all. I acknowledge that he became wildly popular as the host of Tonight and regularly stomped Letterman in the ratings. But Dave has always been my favorite at 10:30 (that’s right – Central Time, the way it’s Supposed to be) by a longshot.

That decision became a lot harder this week with Conan O’Brien taking over for Leno. Maybe you heard about it? In the endless promos? Anyway, Conan’s first week seemed very solid to me to the point that I’m realizing that maybe, just maybe, I prefer O’Brien to Letterman. I’ll always have respect and admiration for Dave’s style of comedy. But Conan just connects with my funny bone a lot more often, it seems.

Have you given the new show a try? Do you prefer it?

I think Conan is clever and I was doubtful that America As A Whole would find him funny.

I haven’t found Letterman to be funny since the early 90s! I really loved him when he was on in the mornings, remember that??

I love Conan. Not the biggest Andy Richter fan in the world, but if that’s my biggest complaint, we’re in great shape.

The taped sketches have been fantastic (CIRCLE! CIRCLE!), and even the updating of classic bits like “The Year 3000” have all worked for me so far. I laughed more in one show of Conan than I did in the 17 years of Jay Leno…that I didn’t watch.

What is this then?
